Brain uploading (to a computer system) is fraught with existential peril. Do you continue to survive, or have you merely created a clone of yourself that believes it is you, leaving you to die? A more philosophically satisfying solution is the Gate of Theseus.
Like the Ship of Theseus, which symbolically remains the original ship even if every part is replaced, the Gate method proposes replacing every cell in the brain in a procedural manner, rather than all at once. Every second, thousands of brain cells die in a human brain, either metabolically replaced or lost forever. If instead you replace each cell with an immortal micro-machine that replicates its function and relationship to the surrounding cells, and continue in a wave or randomly throughout the brain mass, eventually the original human is now running entirely on a simulated machine brain without even losing consciousness.
This machine emulator can then itself have each braincell machine replaced by an abstraction of the same behavior running virtually in a digital environment, relaying the "output" of the cell back electronically to the machine until the entire brain is virtual, and therefore transferable through a digital Gate of Theseus into any vessel or body desired.
Does this version of electronic immortality belay your spiritual or existential fears about robot uploading? Or do you have no problem with a simple brain-copy method? Thoughts please
I think in the case of brain uploading, it's almost certainly a copy. You will die (not because of transfer, but eventually) and a copy of your awareness will go on, but it will not be YOUR awareness.
If Im understanding your premise correctly you are advocating some way of slowly replacing individual cells or portions of the brain with machine corollaries, retaining consciousness as you go. Repeating this process until there's no "meat" left to your brain, and you have an effectively immortal (through maintenance) machine instead of a meat brain.
This seems much more satisfying than other methods but Im not sure it gets around some of the other problems with an 'upload'. At that point you're still a consciousness in a rapidly dying body. How is the machine powered? Does it require the body? Does it require the organic interfaces for the senses?
Is the end game to this line of thought slowly replacing every part of yourself with a machine analog until there's no meat left?

additionally, this is even assuming that a machine brain is even capable of the function of a normal meat brain. In much the same way that we can replace limbs, the prosthesis are invariably 'lesser' than their biological counterparts, would this not be true for the machine brain as well? It might be capable of longer life in and of itself, but could it repair itself from injury? Is the death/rebirth cycle of those brain cells a vital function of the brain as it is for the skin? This is all even assuming that synthetic components that were sufficient analogs to our organic components could even be built to house our consciousness. I dont think that's even possible at the moment is it?

That could be a solution, I've never thought of it that way.
There's still a problem with that concept. Imagine your brain consists of an autonomous mass of nanorobots that can survive upon itself at the death of the body and still have consciousness. If for example you get stuck in an accident like an avalanche or get stuck in a building collapsing, you would be stuck there forever and be aware of it.
This would be hell

Hey /x, I'm feeling a bit nostalgic and wanted to start a thread for us to share any stories of the paranormal that we remember from our childhoods.
To start, a lot of the kids at my school when I was in grades three and four used to say it was haunted by an old janitor named Simon Beasley who had died there around 20-25 years prior. We really never got any proof, but I remember a lot of students, even in the older grades (6-8), complaining about getting strange feelings backstage like someone was watching them, something oppressive. We used to stand outside the doors that led to the backstage and dare one another to go in alone with no lights, but nobody was brave enough haha. The backstage area was connected to the story of Simon Beasley though, it was said that he hung himself back there, perhaps during a school performance.

In middle school I had a friend who claimed she could see ghosts. One day I was leaving gym with her and she stopped mid sentence and just stood completely still for a moment. When she came out of it, she told she had seen a girl walk past who looked like something out of the seventies, jean jacket, fringe, long blonde hair, etc.
Flash forward, chilling with awesome drama teacher. He's obsessed with the paranormal and shows the class shit around campus that was odd, like the leak that went up (basically a huge water stain on a ceiling with nothing above it), as well as showing how the hall was built like an arrow, so if you stood dead center in the back the front would look impossibly far away and tiny even though the school was actually pretty small.
One day he makes us swear to not tell any other teacher he's said anything (3spooky5me) and tells us about how in the seventies a girl had hung herself in the gym, then he pulled out a yearbook and showed us her picture. Looked exactly how my friend had described.

To this day, I still think the school's founder was there to watch the first performance in a while. Other kids have stories about seeing her, and all of them described her as tall and wearing a dress. The school also has a tiny museum, which has a photo in it of what's supposedly her ghost.
Haven't heard of Veelox in a long time. What happened to it? I've heard there was some kind of demonic fuckery in there.

Before things like torrents and tor, I used to use 2 programs to dl stuff like movies, music, porn etc. called "Limewire" and "Bearshare". Both were basically uncensored P2P, similar to torrents, sharing files directly between 2 peoples' computers with the program merely acting as a client... anyway..
Bearshare was pretty average in terms of content, music mainly iirc. Limewire, however, was the closet thing to a "Dark Web" at the time. You'd see all sorts of extreme things shared.. snuff, gore, cp, documents.. just random illegal shit. Neither had sections or a guide, the programs themselves were just search engines showing files shared from other peoples' computers.
Usually, if you were careful, you could tell what the bad shit was by the suspicious filename.jpg and avoid it, but not always. People are cunts. Viruses were rife. Both programs were high-risk. Most of the time, you never knew wtf you were downloading until you opened it.
Anyway, inevitably, I ended up getting a virus from one of the two, probably Limewire, that had (unknown to me at the time) installed a program on my computer that acted as a "seed" for fuck knows what. I was totally unaware, and continued to use both programs as normal....

I lay there for about a minute.. silence.. birds chirping.. then decided a piss was a good idea, so up I get... go for a piss.

I couldn't move, so I sit there arse glued to the pissy bed as the thunder squad approached...
