So /x/, I have a question, a theory and an irrational paranoid fear.

First of all, what is the absolute worst way to die you can think of? If you want to go with torture, be specific (scaphism, brazen bull, etc. If it's something that will bring shame to your family, please elaborate. If it has to do with not so much how you died, but who your murderer was, those stories are welcome. I'm looking for greentexts, but of course they're not mandatory. I'm working on a project about fear, and I thought this would be a great place to ask.

I have a theory that Hell will be the worst way you can possibly imagining dying will be repeated ad nauseam for eternity. If you think being buried alive is the worst way to die, then Hell will be you tied up in a wooden box screaming and pleading with your abductors while they cover your coffin with dirt. In blackness, insanity takes hold long before dehydration and starvation finally, mercifully, brings your torment to an end. The next thing you know, you're being nailed into a coffin and lowered into the cold earth...

Is anyone else afraid to post their biggest fears online for fear they could someday be used to torment you? Internet freaks, Abu Grahib style interrogators, or just whoever pulls the strings (if there is such a person) doing it for shits and giggles? Some freak or nsa mindbreaker finds out you're terrified of roaches so they lock you in an infested closet? Probably irrational, but all this shit keeps me up at night.

Night club.

Has anyone else become the human servant of a demon? I summoned a demon two years ago and asked if I could become it's slave, since I had nothing to live for. To my surprise it accepted, so I've just been doing mundane things for it since then. Shit like sacrificing animals or engraving runes in public areas to help it gain more influence.

That's more of a sexual thing, isn't it? This is more of a servant/helper arrangement. To my surprise a lot of the demons I've met were quite nice and cordial, provided you keep an open mind and cast out any prejudices.

Last thread we started talking about 'belief' but I was too occupied to post the following, extracts from an academic paper called “Medical Anthropology and the Problem of Belief” by Byron Good. It best illustrates my position of “belief” as an irrelevant factor in the face of occult or mystical praxis and shows one of the themes I like to talk about, the anthropologist who awakens to spiritual forces in the field. This likely won't answer any 'skeptical' queries but may at least offer new ground to start from because there's bits in these three pages that's fundamentally important to our discussion of belief.
*

I begin with an intuition that there is a close relationship between science, including medicine, and religious fundamentalism that turns, in part, on our concept of “belief”...Wilfred Cantwell Smith, a comparative historian of religion and theologian, argues that the fundamentalist conception of belief is a recent Christian heresy.

A central issue in the rationality debate has been discussion of the problem of “apparently irrational beliefs”. How do we make sense of cultural views of the world that are not in accord with contemporary natural science, it is often asked. Do we argue that members of traditional cultures live in wholly different worlds, and not ours, or even that they cannot be translated intelligibly into our language? Advocates of the typical rationalist position hold that such relativism is essentially incoherent...arguing...that seemingly rational statements must be understood symbolically rather than literally or that they represent “proto-science”….

For much of this debate, Evans-Pritchard's “Witchcraft, Oracles and Magic among the Azande” serves as the primary source...arguably still the most important modernist text in medical anthropology. It has enduring influence because of the wealth of ethnography and the richness of interpretation of witchcraft… “Every Zande knows that termites eat the support of granaries in course of time and that even the hardest woods decay with years of service. But why should these particular people have been sitting under this particular granary when it collapsed?” Thus...the Azande turn to witchcraft to answer the “why me?” [rather than the question of already known causal factors] to find an underlying cause in the moral universe and a response that is both socially embedded and morally satisfying. Pritchard continues: “It is an inevitable conclusion from Zande descriptions of witchcraft that it is not an objective reality. The physiological condition which is said to be the seat of witchcraft, and which I believe to be nothing more than food passing through the small intestine, is an objective condition but the qualities they attribute and the rest of their beliefs are mystical. Witches, as the Azande conceive of them, cannot exist.”

He goes on to immediately argue that although mistaken, Zande views serve as a natural philosophy and embrace a system of values which regulate human conduct….

Not altogether obvious in Prtichard's text is his juxtaposition of “belief” and “knowledge”. The book is devoted largely to Zande mystical notions...One chapter, however, entitled “Leechcraft” is devoted to the common-sense notions of sickness. The language here mirrors this distinction. The book begins: “Azande BELIEVE that some people are witches and can injure them in virtue of an inherent quality...they BELIEVE (in) sorcerers...performing magic rites with bad medicines...against both they employ diviners, oracles, and medicine…...Azande KNOW diseases by their major symptoms, the very fact of naming diseases and differentiating between them shows observation and common sense inferences.”

Jeanne Favret-Saada's “Deadly Words: Witchcraft in the Bocage” is the classic post-modern ethnography on the topic (of witchcraft)...in the first few months of her work, villagers referred her to a few well known healers who were often interviewed by the local press, but the peasants themselves refused to discuss the matter with her. Witchcraft? Only fools believe that!

“Take the ethnographer, she has spent more than thirty months studying witchcraft...'tell us more about the witches' she is asked when she gets back to the city. Just as one might say: tell us tales about ogres, etc., frighten us, but make it clear that it's only a story; or that they're just peasants: credulous, backward, marginal...no wonder that country people in the West are not in any hurry to step forward to be taken for idiots in the way that public opinion would have them be.”
>>
>>17799611
She was taken ill, beset with accidents, and sough the aid of a healer in the region, an unwitcher. She began to interview the man and his family whom she had met when the man was a patient in a mental hospital. As they told her the details of his illness and who they suspected might be responsible, and realized that they saw her as a fellow healer and now expected her to act on their behalf. Why else would she ask about these matters so explicitly? Only the powerful dare ask such questions. Simply by asking about their difficulties she was seen to be entering their struggle with their enemy wishing them harm, a life and death struggle in which she was now an advocate for their interests. Witchcraft, she came to see, was a battle of powerful wills, a fight to the death, a fight through the medium of spoken words. One could only talk about witchcraft from an engaged position – as one bewitched, as a suspected witch, or as one willing to serve as an unwitcher. To engage in discourse is to enter the struggle.

Science for Favret-Saada is not the arbiter between the empirically real and the mystical, but one of several “official theories of misfortune” backed by powerful social agents: The school, the church, the American Medical Association. Language is not a set of neutral propositions about the world...but the medium through which vicious and life-threatening power struggles are engaged.

In the perception of the individual, yes. From an outside perspective, no.
To me, whether or not I eat french bread or rye is a choice I make arbitrarily, in reality it's most likely determined by my dna and circumstance. My reasoning for this is that in the absence of a substantive proof of the soul and given the deterministic nature of our apparent universe a hypothetical universe with the exact same conditions as our own would have all of the same stimuli as our own, such that one given infinite regression of any given choice would always make the same choice.

TL;DR: to you it seems that french bread is just better but in reality it's just your brain chemistry and life experience making you make that choice. thereby from the moment of the big bang your choice was a given.

Interesting perspective. If reincarnation is real, this has horrifying implications in terms of eternal return or whatever it is called. Can't deny your logic though.

I got hit from behind with a hot feeling on my shoulder n back. When I turned around in shock, I was hit with this rush or jolt of fear. Then I felt no emotion. Sickly empty. Meanwhile I was crying and laughing uncontrollably screaming "WHAT THE FUCK!" over and over. I eventually faded back to feeling normal. My mom witnessed it all. And she even saw a portal or orb grow about 10-8' behind me prior and during the event...
Anyone know wtf happened?

This happened just under two hours.
Been on 4chan a long time but have hardly ever posted, especially on /x/. But, kinda felt like this story warranted it.

My wife is out of town and so I have been home alone for a few days. I figured I'd go pay her horse a visit- it's been cooped up in it's 12x12 stall for a few days without being ridden.

I'm not a very good rider so I just planned on turning her out to the arena they have over there.

Guess the barn need an explanation: I live in Arizona, east valley- technically in Mesa but it's practically Apache Junction. The suburbs just kinda stop abruptly and turn to desert over here. I'm in the suburby part, so I can't have a horse on the property- we pay to board our horse at a place just a few miles further northeast on a ~3 acre plot. There's people who live in RVs all year round there (when the snowbirds come it's packed) but right now there's only maybe 4 RVs.

The land has a community tack room (where the saddles and stuff are kept) and office in the dead center. Just next to that is a few round pens and a larger "arena", a big pen- maybe 100 feet in diameter.

Anyways, I take the horse out to the arena and just let her stretch her legs. I had her on a lead and walked her for a bit, then she heard something (but not me) and tried to bolt. I've handled horses enough to know how to calm them down- I forced her to run in some little circles to get her mind off of whatever freaked her out. More in a sec:

Anyways. She was freaking out, calmed her down, walked her a bit, then she did it again, we did some circles. Happened three times, then she seemed to settle down. I let her loose and she sniffed the ground and walked, but every once in a while she'd flip out and almost buck, just out there on her own, no other horses bugging her or nothing.

It's weird for her to do that- she's about 20, a quarter horse mix of some kind. She's usually pretty mellow. I figured that she was just all pent up from being stuck in her stall for a few days and laughed at her antics and talked to her, stuff like "Whatcha doing, girl?", "Hey, calm down," and stuff.

After a while the sun was close to setting- I think it was maybe 8:05. The wind was blowing and bringing a real nice breeze- it's been about 115F in the city, out there in the desert it really cools down at night.

I took her by the tack room to brush her and give her some fly spray (animal-safe fly repellent). As I was brushing her I kept hearing a scraping noise on the corrugated steel roof of the tack room. Spooky, but there's a pale verde tree right next to it so I figured it was just the wind scraping it.

More in a sec.
>>
>>17813124

So I cleaned her up and started to walk her back to her stall when I heard more scraping. The tack room was on my left, the scraping was coming from the right, where the office is. I didn't think anything of it at the time.

I put her in the stall and the other horses (there's a ton of stalls, maybe 50, but this time of year there's only a dozen or so) where all antsy. I figured it was the wind. A lot of them are arabian horses, they spook at anything.

As I was walking back I went between the tack room and office again and heard the scraping. THEN I realized that the scraping was coming from the office roof now.

There's no trees or anything by the office.

I look up and see a small black shape, maybe the size of a small cat or grackle bird, flit out of view from the edge of the roof. Figure, "oh, it's just an animal."
Then I head something laugh.
Fairly quiet, but it was my own laugh. I've heard myself in videos and stuff, and it was MINE. Like, probably the same kind of laugh when I was laughing at the horse's bucking.

I froze and instantly wished somebody was there with me, but not, just the quiet RVs (granted, most of them had their lights on, which was reassuring, but they were far away).

I NOPE away, towards my nearby car and hear from about the roof "Watcha doing, girl?"

NOPE much faster and get in the car, frantically start it and NOPE even faster outta there. Turned on the radio just to hear somebody's voice other than... whatever the fuck that was.

I think it was a commercial about some concert. I guess Slipknot got postponed.
>>
>>17813141

But yeah, that's my story.
I went to Walmart right after- being around all those slobby people felt great and calmed me down. I was glad to be near other people. Now I'm at home with the dogs and the cat's on my lap.

I hope that story wasn't too poorly written or disjointed, but there you go. If you have questions, ask.

So I was just did a cleansing spell on my room, new altar set up and book of shadows and I accidently used basil leaves instead of sage. -.- it's night time where I am and I picked the wrong plant. I'm going to redo the spell tomorrow.... should I be worried about the basil? Or is it okay, except the fact my room smells like Italy.

Also, cleansing rituals and spells you like to use?

I figure you guys are most likely of all the boards to know the answer to this. In the expansion pack to FEAR, one of your team members mentions that he doesn't want this mission to turn into a repeat of Amarillo. I figured it was just fluff dialogue, but in the new footage for Resident Evil 7, one of the characters said almost word for word the same thing. Is this line a reference to a movie, or is Amarillo Texas known to be a 2spooky place that a team of ghosthunters would be likely to go? Google turns up nothing.

Well yeah, that's what I always thought it was, it just seemed odd to me that two unrelated game series would use the same location to do this. I was wondering if something spooky had happened there at some point, like it being a notoriously weird place (like Denver airport) or like it being the setting to some slasher movie Ive never seen or something.
