So for homework I got the map (see picture) between column 8 and 9 lies a river, and a bridge located at 8,3 and 8,10. So if I wanted to get from 1,1 to 16,16 for example I need to find the distance to a bridge, and then from the bridge to the other point. Because I need to program this, I want to try and make a general assumption regarding which bridge to choose. Or am I better off calculating the distances to and from each bridge and testing which one has the shortest distance?

Are you using Euclidian or Manhattan geometry?
Because with the latter, as long as you're not actually doubling back, which bridge you use makes no difference.

Right now I am going to use

else
result = 1 + min(A to bridge1 + bridge1 to B, A to bridge2 + bridge2 to B)

Im about to purchase a new Laptop and I'd like to know your opinion on different computer brands so I can make a choice.
Lenovo is good, Acer is nice as well, HP fries itself, nobody uses Toshibas, Asus isn't bad, Dell is shit and Macs are for people who have no idea whatsoever about the world.

Alright. My younger brother came home with 2 old computers that he got from his school's IT Room. They've upgraded 4 times since they last used these, and were going to throw them out. My desktop recently fell to shit, so he got these as a replacement. Good natured kid.
However. These computers are old and run like shit. While I wait for parts to come in for my current desktop, I plan to fiddle around with these. Maybe replace some of the old parts, take it apart and put it back together, etc.
Basically, I wan't to know what the safest and easiest...

Which would require reinstalling an OS. With that done it would be as new, software wise.
Laptop parts are mostly not field replaceable, unless you for whatever reason carry around SODIMM ram and it's not soldered in, you can change that.

I'm running 64-bit Firefox on an Athlon 860k with 16GB of ram, and for whatever reason I'm getting frequent freezes on sites like 4chan, Tumblr, and Reddit, particularly when I have a lot of tabs open. You'd think my system would be more than powerful enough to handle it, but evidently it's not. I have a shitload of addons installed and I am seriously considering removing or at least disabling some of them. NoScript in particular is quite annoying, and it's almost pointless since I end up having to enable a bunch of scripts on the sites I use anyway,...

ghostery is garbage. you don't really need noscript and ublock origin, delete noscript. what greasemonkey scripts are you running?
Have you run it in safe mode without any addons to see if an addon is causing it?
If it still happens without addons then it's not any addon causing the issue.
Install Sandboxie, then run a sandboxed Firefox. Inside there uninstall one by one until you finally stop the stuttering. That's the one you can get rid of outside the sandbox.
