Don't forget they tried to backpedal their choice into Zekrom midgen but they failed at promoting it too.
No because Zoroark's deaign is a lot more cohesive and really conveys its inspiration more than Lucario's.
Not really. The fact that Zoroark failed to become popular despite having a good design, while Lucario is popular even though it looks like utter garbage is all the more crushing really.

All pokemon are now Type Percentages.
Charizard: 60% Fire, 30% Flying, 10% Dragon
Flygon: 50% Dragon, 25% Ground, 25% Flying
Gengar: 10% Poison, 90% Ghost, <1% Flying (negliginle percent as a formality, does not count in calculations, only to get rid of fucking Levitate)
Azumarill: 90% Water, 10% Fairy
and so forth. Instead of something being "weaker than the other same thing" now they can have distinction by being different type percentages.

In the next mainline gen VI or VII game, scanning Pokken and Smash Bros amiibo allows players to obtain unique versions of their respective Pokemon.
You're the guy in charge of this. How would Pokemon like Jigglypuff, Lucario, Shadow Mewtwo, and Machamp differ from their normal in-game counterparts in terms of new moves, different stats, etc?

Id really rather more effort goes into balancing thay promote already great mons. Dont get me wrong, my fave is listed in the OP but it's not exactly healthy to keep wishing only for some pokemon to get better. A lot of them need help

Pikachu gives you cosplay pikachu except with better stats
Charizard would give you a clone zard from the first movie with special markings
Jugglypuff would give you a jigglypuff wearing Sleep kirby's hat because fuck you

Was there a reason the Gameboy Color Pokemon games didn't have battle backgrounds and just white space instead? I've played GBC RPGs with enemies rendered on top of backgrounds, so is sprite limitations really an excuse?
The concept hadn't been thought of probably.
What kind of background were you after?
Do you want something simple like gens 3-5?
I honestly think white does a better job for a gameboy.
Do you want a special background for each terrain like gen 6?
