I think the same, but it has both the best features ever created (Soaring and DexNav) and the best Pokédex, even separating Pokémon by their respective generation. So I only have AS for complete the Pokédex (Mythical Legendaries are also included due to one of them available each month) and for Free Battles on Battle Spot (bonus point for make some Johto, Sinnoh and Unova music to be selected on online battles).
Because of that I'm playing SoulSilver because there are many things I left unfinished (Johto Dex, TMs, Battle Frontier icons and trophies, etc.)

A lot of people like it. Some people probably like the design, the type, the characterization in the anime, the inclusion in Smash games, its mega evolutions--for any reason, really. Some people probably like it for the same things that you think went wrong with it. It's just a difference of opinion.
