In between threads, I continued my crystal run, which proved to be... Eventful.
First off, after beating Clair I got me an extreme speed Dratini as my dragon's den mon, but it very quickly died to a pursuit due to leading off with it.
Then I finally went around to dealing with Suicune, and, due to the nature of that event, it WAS my first encounter in the Tin Tower, so I masterballed it and will leave it in the box.
Then, it was onward to victory road. A Rhydon was my capture of the route, but McCloud was a little over eager and I didn't end up getting it.
To make matters worse, bubba ate a CRITICAL Self-destruct from a wild Gravler and is now taking a dirt name. Sadly, because of the rules of this series of runs, this means I won't have a real starter until X.
Luckily even with down to 4 mons (Bubba and an HM slave taking up two of the slots) I was able to take my rival.
Now I'm just grinding to be able to take the elite four

I scoffed at people who thought Magearna was a gen 7 mon at first, but I've been off the gen 6.5 train for a long time now. . . . So, on reflection, isn't it kinda really weird that this is the first gen 7 pokémon they chose to reveal?

Pretty sure it was from an ISpy Pokemon book. I had one as a kid and I loved finding all the goofy Easter eggs. That's probably the best you'll get, Pokemon were drawn small to fit in as many as they could.

Hello /vp/, first time poster here,
To what extent are the original 151 Pokemon still used in the trading card games today? Do they keep coming out with new editions of them? Are they still usable?
I'm writing a script and in one scene two kids are playing Pokemon cards. I want there to be a nostalgia factor for people my age, but I am also writing the script taking place today. I was thinking of using an Ivysaur card. How likely is it that a kid today would own an Ivysaur card, doesn't matter what edition.
If not, any recommendations on what card to use? It's supposed to be an object of sentimental value later on when the character grows up.
The original 151 are still made and used. But those old cards are no longer legal for play no.

I hate to recommend bulbapedia for anything, but basically if you go on there and search "[any pokemon] TCG" you'll find out if one's been released in a recent set. In Ivysaur's case: Not since 2012
