So, since it looks like the star citizen generals over at /vg/ either got banned or just died off, I'll post this here.
I was a White Knight for CIG. For $94 million dollars of crowdfunded money, I defended them to the death here, at /vg/, at reddit, and at somethingawful. I called Derek Smart a liar and a con-artist. Despite the total lack of progress on anything resembling an actual game over the past four years, I kept fighting the good fight against "haters" and "trolls."
No longer.
On the latest Around the Verse video, DiscoLando walked through the expansion to their Santa Monica location. One of the most expensive places to maintain a studio in the world. They're building a motion capture studio there. Only they spent millions to build their own motion capture studio back in 2013, according to dozens of posts on the website. Then they did mocap at some other studio (oddly enough, owned by one of Chris Roberts' childhood friends) instead. Then they paid millions to do a 60-day shoot at Imaginarium (Gollum actor Andy Serkis' studio) to do full performance capture. And they spent tens of millions on Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, and others.
Then they post a new promo video of an Avenger rescuing an escape pod... only I recognized it, called out DiscoLando in the comments, and he was forced to admit that they reused a year-old promo video, claimed it was footage of the upcoming update, and that it didn't actually represent anything you'd be able to do in the game.
So no more. I realize I've been defending Chris Roberts and his harridan wife in their shady attempt to revive their Hollywood dreams, all on my dime. Now I wanna tear this shit down.
How did you feel when you realized Derek Smart was the good guy all along?

What are some games in which the protagonists are actually evil and the characters portrayed as villains are actually good? Bonus points if the writers did this by accident, i.e., they weren't trying to be ironic or edgy but rather they just have a shitty sense of morality and/or terrible writing skills.

You're cryogenically frozen for 200 years; some jackasses show up, kill your wife, and kidnap your son. You somehow wake for a few seconds and witness this before going back to sleep for another few decades.
Those jackasses happen to be from the Institute, and the man who kidnapped your son was a former NCR soldier whose had his lifespan tremendously extended for no goddamn reason other than Bethesda trying to pretend they actually know or care about the old games. The chucklefucks are responsible for creating androids, and they needed a living human specimen to get the anatomy right or some shit. I have no idea why; it'd be much simpler just to have your family wake up before you. Also, how the fuck do you get out of the pod yourself? Doesn't that defeat the purpose? Fuck it, Bethesda has no idea what they're doing.
Anyway, everyone hates the Institute because, I dunno, robots are bad or some shit and they have this tendency to consume entire towns for scrap. Seems like a critical fucking design flaw, but whatever.
Your son has grown up to become the head of the Institute, because they raised him and shit. Final choice is between you killing him and abolishing the organization, or you supporting him.
