SMG1, fact. SMG2 is on the same boat as 3D Land and 3D World (not implying it's shit, but it's just linear floating platforms in that game. In SMG there were these giant chunks of land for you to run around)

The second undoubtedly has more polished level design, but the first still has the edge with better use of the space motif and a better atmosphere thanks to the Comet Observatory and story book
They're still the greatest games Nintendo as ever made either way

I prefer SMG1. The worlds are far more cohesive, and the level design generally better imo.
Both are world class though.
