So I've been playing this game for a little while (I'm 5 hours in,) and it's clear at this point that /v/ was wrong about this game.
FFXIII is a wild adventure set within a chaotic and beautiful world. The map may be extremely linear, but the game is essentially the experience of facing one major crisis after another, and it could be accurately described as a true outlaw simulator. It is within this setting that you learn about the characters and their motivations.
Some say that "the game pretty much plays itself," and there's more than a little truth to that argument, but there's more to it than that. The combat system is unique in that it feels like you only control one character at a time, but in reality, the other party members are strongly influenced by the paradigms you select over the course of a battle. It's sort of like a streamlined version of some of the features you see in the Tales games. Rather than changing the behavior of characters individually, you perform a paradigm shift mid-battle, and the other characters begin taking action that is appropriate for their new role.
Overall, I'm enjoying the game so far. I can see that you might not like it if you're not big on story-driven games, but I think that anyone who plays RPGs for the story would be doing themselves a disservice if they never gave the game an honest shot to win them over.

It's not losing I'm mad with anymore, it's the bullshit that leads up to a completely unavoidable loss unless I had the precognition to do something different ten seconds ago.

Best we can tell, it's HW minus one dimension.
And as cool as the 3d was, it didn't add a lot of depth to the game.

Who shines the most in terms of changes in 1.1.3 for you?
I think Lucas got bumped up a few spots. I didn't even like playing him before but his grab is noticeably better. I picked him up after the patch since everybody was playing Cloud and I've been having a blast, pulling off really cool tricks that somehow I couldn't do before.
His Back-Air seems to have a bigger sweetspot so I've been spiking in style for the last 3 days, creating really hype moments.
I also wanted to ask you guys what I'm supposed to do after PK Freeze. I still can't figure out what the move is meant to do or what kind of setup I can do with it

I was out in the glowing sea yesterday to do a quest and got into a fight with 3 radscorpions (1 of which was glowing and another legendary) and an alpha deathclaw. I had Paladin Danse with me because it was a BoS quest and I've been trying to build rep with him. I'm playing on survival difficulty so I had to run and kite and try to get Danse to tank as many of the enemies as I could. I ran around enough to drop aggro on the deathclaw to where he started fighting with the radscorpions and they started to kill each other. I assumed Danse went down and would just get up and continue following me as usual. But when i got to the Sentinel Site, went in the door, and finished loading in, he wasn't with me anymore. I finished what I came to do and went back out and looked around where the fight was to find him but he wasn't there. I also haven't been able to find him anywhere that I had sent him to previously or on the Prydwen. Any help on how to find him or where he might be would be great.
