What are the most unnecessary graphical effects in videogames? Pic related.
People are going to say motion blur and dof but they can be used well.
I don't get chromatic aberration. Why do video game devs want to simulate a camera fault? Also bloom and HDR can also be used well but more often than not they're implemented pretty poorly. I don't get the dirt on camera thing for the same reason as chromatic aberration.
I like Chromatic Aberration
When done correctly it can lend tremendous realism to a scene
Anything post process that tries to "mimic" real life shit, like blur and bloom.

The way Japanese games do fanservice is generally awful. Not that I'm saying most western games do nudity and such well but the average weeb pandering game (which I know isn't all of them) is just awful with fanservice and deserves all the flak it gets.
GTA generally does it well though, I'm not sure why you used it as an example. I only played Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain but Heavy Rain at least didn't seem too bad at it.

They localized Nier, so for the time being I don't see an issue. Nier turned out perfectly fine for me.
