GSC is the worst Pokemon generation
What makes an RPG good? Replay value. The game should be replayable countless times to be good, so that each time you could take a different path and face the same tasks with different resources.
In this regard, Gold/Silver (Crystal to a lesser extent) are an absolute failure.
Look how convenient RBY was - you had all the resources in the world to make almost any Pokemon usable. Thunderbolt? It's yours right after the 3rd gym. Ice Beam? Travel to Celadon and you can get one. Need a powerful ground-type attack? Dig is available after talking to Bill. You can try out anything with sufficient success, and you can replay the game countless times to try all sorts of things.
Then we have the disaster that is GSC, where only like half a dozen are good. The special split makes guys like Hypno and Tentacruel barely worth using anymore. And what the special split doesn't achieve, horrible movepools and lack of TMs greatly help. Most decent Pokemon need to wait until, like, lv. 50 to learn a great move, if they even learn it.
The problem of lacklustre movepools is generally resolved with the help of TMs. You have Surf, Shadow Ball, a really watered down Dig and... Oh hey, that's about it. Your replacement for good first gen TMs like Psychic and Rock Slide are now the Goldenrod shop TMs - the three elemental punches and Headbutt, which are way weaker than what you had at your disposal in generation 1.
If something doesn't have the anatomy to use punches (bye bye Haunter, you're now useless), it's as good as worthless.
Some may say that you can still use anything because stats make Pokemon good, not moves, for in-game purposes. Well, enjoy using Growlithe, Shellder and Weepinbell whom you can't even evolve until you beat the elite four Champion. Those are some hot stats right there.
You like eeveelutions? Oh look, you can only get 2 of them, and they're barely usable.
Really, let's take a look at what actually works for the main part of the game:
The legendaries (even though Raikou has trouble attacking due to having no Thunderbolt/Thunderpunch access, and Entei has to wait until lv. 51 to get Flamethrower)
Typhlosion (Ember until lv. 31 is one horrible joke)
Feraligatr (water/ice is good coverage)
Red Gyarados (gets no physical STAB but sweeps those annoying Rockets anyway)
Raticate (Hyper Fang destroys everything earlygame, and you could train it further and make it your Shadow Ball user for Will or something)
Mareep (gets two elemental punches after evolving just once)
Kadabra (triple punches and naturally learnt Psychic at lv. 38 make him a beast)
Sudowoodo (actually learns Rock Slide unlike a certain somebody known as Graveler)
Graveler (good typing and Magnitude is passable until you learn Earthquake or find the TM - whichever happens first - you never know)
Miltank (STAB on Normal attacks, Shadow Ball, can survive strong attacks too)
Tauros (good stats all around, STAB on Normal attacks)
Magmar (learns Flamethrower early and can Thunderpunch things for coverage as soon as you catch it, unlike you, Quilava, you poor excuse for a fire starter)
Nidoking/Nidoqueen (excellent coverage with elemental punches)
...and some late guests like Lapras and Jynx (who needs serious grinding to catch up with the party's levels).
If you want to use anything else... you must be deliberately making the game harder for yourself.
So many good Pokemon screwed up by being limited to moves with 5 PP and terrible accuracy when trained to their peak.

OK anons I just started pic related because apparently its one of the best RPGs ever made, but I dont know what the fuck am I doing, theres absolutely no tutorials and I obviously dont have the instruction booklet.
Why does my character glows pink/purple periodically?
Why do some enemies just randomly explode like 10 seconds after being hit?
Why do I sometimes inflict 0 damage on enemies when hitting them multiple times? Or they take damage seconds after I hit them.
Is there a way to dodge enemy spells/skills? They seem to be auto targetted.
How the fuck do I equip armor? I select the piece I want and I double tap B but its still not equipped.
I really want to love this game, but it feels like one of those games were you only discover/understand how to do 10% of the stuff and so it hurts the overall experience

Anon your character glows because he's ready to hit again. You cant spam the attack button in this game, if you do your subsequent attacks will barely deal damage (like stamina in oblivion). The glow happens when your character is "charged" to attack again.

Glow means you're ready to attack.
Might just be a lag thing, never really figured this one out.
Because you can't spam-attack. You have to let the gauge under your hp refill before you swing or you'll do shit damage.
Nope, you have a chance for it to miss but that's it.
When you select the armor it'll flash, select it again and the character's face will appear next to it. Also each type of armor is only for one of the three characters, so you can't just buy the cheapest shit of the same type for everyone.
