I'm gonna actually defend this game. It wasn't great but it's the closest thing to an actual "Battle for Bikini Bottom" successor. There was definitely a lot of shitty parts to it and the movie tie in was awful but it still had some of the those good Battle for Bikini Bottom feels.

I think quite a bit of people (including myself) care somewhat about achievements. I think of it as a marker as to what and how much I've gotten done in the game.
Pretty dumb that I want to play with enhanced graphics or some trivial bullshit that doesn't affect gameplay at all, would disable this.

Isn't 30 like the average age of gamers these days? The people who are 30 now are the people who grew up playing PS1/PS2 so it's not surprising that a lot of these guys are still playing.

I kind of agree with what you're saying about not much to do. It felt like the sandbox elements took a backseat to the main story compared to the GTAs.
However, the atmosphere was fantastic and immersive. I found the main story to be enough to keep me occupied, and the zombie mode kept me busy after that.
I just wish there was a PC port.

It's slow as fuck, the 2 gun limit and load outs are idiotic, Doomguy looks literally like Master Chief now, SP's levels are confirmed to be linear and full of obligatory "combat arenas, there's both Perk and level up systems in SP, the cinematic executions and button presses just ruin the flow of the game, guns look and sound weak as shit and Bethfucks only focus on melee combat, which grants player tons of free HP and ammo, thus eliminating the need of eell thought item placement, there's gunbutt melee and quick grenades, hit indicators and damage values, mission objective reminder and direction compass, OST sucks, and finally :
Bethmorons hate criticism so much, that they sent 4chan some copyright complains, preventing users from posting certain D4 images and webms.

The series is essentially having some of the greatest growing pains ever. They're trying to take a game from 23 years ago and make something contemporary out of it. Naturally, people are pissed at what's different. Not only that, but they seem to expect nothing but the best from it due to its titanic name.
This is one of those games that's going to suffer from Nothing's-Ever-Good-Enough syndrome. MGSV suffered a similar fate. It was a great game, but it just couldn't climb on top of the mountain of expectations that fans of the series had.
