I don't think I've seen a single Baten Kaitos thread this year.
I have never played a Zelda game, but all the footage of BotW I have seen has me semi-hyped so I'd like to give some of the past games a whirl.
I thought I'd start from the beginning with the first NES games, but I am admittedly not used to the cryptic nature of old-school 'open world' action RPGs, or however you'd like to classify the first LoZ game.
Any tips/advice for a newbie?

- Learn to navigate. Grab a map online or make your own map like people did in the 80s.
- Explore and use your bombs a lot. There's several hidden things you can find to make your life easier.
- Make sure to get the letter quickly as you can buy potions.
I actually can't think of many aside from that. It's old and it's tough for people not used to such games (even I get my ass kicked by teleporting Wizrobes and sometimes by Darknuts, to be honest). Still, if you can enjoy old games, it can be fun. If you really can't get into it, it's okay if you want to skip it.
Zelda II is very different from every other game in the series, so be aware of that. Don't judge the series too much until you get to ALTTP at least.

Combat looks like all flash no substance, maps look empty and exploration is pointless if everything is shown on the mini map.
I got this for $12 off G2A the other day and it's actually pretty fun. The graphics are nice, even if the textures take a while to pop in, there's a decent playerbase that is quite friendly and I haven't come across a single fetch quest yet.
Why did everyone hate this again? Were there launch problems?

Started playing Cossacks (old isometric RTS from the studio that made STALKER) again with some friends, and discovered the folks are working on a new game in the series, Cossacks 3 which supposedly is a remake of the first one.

I didn't like 2 either, but I get what they were going for. In all the promo material for Cossacks and the demo screen they had those huge choreographed battles, when the battle system itself really wasn't that complex in the actual game, so they tried to focus more on the actual combat in the sequel than on building your town and managing ressources. Seems like they reacted to fans though with what Cossacks 3 is shaping up to be.

Is this game supposed to be easy to beat but hard to do perfectly?
I'm playing Bayonetta for the first time right now with very little action game experience (MGR was my first Platinum game, and I only beat God Hand afterwards), and I feel like it's really easy on normal difficulty. Dodge seems to have a million billion iframes and weave attacks do a shit ton of damage to everything.
Granted, I'm only on Chapter 5 so it might pick up later on. But I was expecting more of a challenge. It really should have had a Hard option.
