Lars Von Trier is a truly twisted genius, his films horrify more than any horror film because his monsters are us.
He makes cozy, rational men who wear jumpers into rapists, cowards, murderers and despicable liars. He seems to have a deep hatred and mistrust of modern Western culture, and relishes showing us a vulnerable woman become gradually ruined and destroyed by a patriarchal world.
Whatever his politics and his religiosity, Von Trier has insight into human evil. He peels back the layers of civility and order, to reveal the rutting animals beneath. Tom writhing on top of Grace, desperate to fúck her despite most of the town's men having raped her, is such a sickening concept that one almost needs a shower after watching the film.
She wasn't really raped since she was such pushover. Only at the end did she realise that she had been taken advantage of by these relatively normal people. Moral of the story is everyone is looking to fuck you.
Dogville is his best movie. I didn't think such a minimal setting would work but it was fucking great.

For once, /tv/ was right, after making me watch utter shite like Spring Breakers or Enter the Void, i've finally watched BvS Ultimate edition and it is a Masterpiece, with capital M. This is arguably the best capekino movie ever made, up there with Watchmen and TDK.
Snyder is a contemporary genious, in time his work will be regarded as the vanguard of a new golden age of kino, as this is how cinema should be, highest production value with intelligent plot.
If you haven't seen it yet trust this and go see it right now, you won't regret it.

A makeup artist who meets Fanning and is nice to her has a secret lesbian crush on her, but when she reveals her feelings to Fanning (and tries to rape her), Fanning rejects the makeup artist. So the makeup artist, who also works on cadavers at a funeral home, has sex with a dead body and fantasizes about Fanning. Soon enough, she and the two jealous models end up killing Fanning, and then, it turns out, the two models eat Fanning’s body. We learn this because one of them has Fanning’s eyeball pop out of her mouth at a photo shoot, then she vomits, and then, she kills herself by cutting out her stomach with a knife. Oh, and by the way, the blood-covered models have a lesbian shower scene to wash it all off (that’s before the aforementioned eyeball regurgitation and stomach-ectomy, or whatever you call it).

Was really underwhelming, I guess because the deaths didn't seem paced well. Was hoping the people in the room would be a bit more ingenious with their weapon choices. Those chemicals in the lab could have been thrown in people's faces. They could have ducktaped that knife to a pole to make a spear. etc etc
