>Which rules should I follow?
If you don't already have some homebrew version with friends, follow the MTGO card pool and banlist (and please spread this to your friends that start playing with you). Currently the only place Pauper is officially supported by Wizards is online, and they have a card pool and banlist, therefore that is the format we should be using offline on paper as well, since decks and cards can transfer to games between each other with no confusion.

>WAHHH THATS TOO HARD WHERE...
http://www.mtg-hunter.com
The bottom left has a box, select MTGO Pauper, all cards in the card pool and banlist are taken into account.

>What deck should I use?
Ask in the thread!

>Is MTGO worth it?
If you have no local paper competition, but want to play a vast amount of Pauper, it can't be beat, even if it is a clunky GUI, you learn quickly.

Some good decks for newbies include but are not limited to:
>Burn
>Elves
>Goblins
>Stompy
>Slivers
>Affinity
>Mono U control

I played an old grizzled fighter that would use every dirty trick in the book to kill someone. He ended up joining an arena during the game and actually did pretty well since most of the competition was well below his skill level. Didn't even have to play dirty to beat them.

He earned a shot against the champion, who was the prideful sort of savage that wants a good fight. I knew he was good after watching a few of his fights and asking around. I tried to use that pride against him, thinking I had that figured out. I was fucking wrong.

Long story short, I had hidden a blade in one boot along with a small satchel of blinding powder in the other. I thought I could convince the guy to toss his arms and armor to the side and settle things hand to hand "like a man", then I would Chong Li his ass and shank him. The fight started, I proposed my offer and he refused. I didn't have a backup plan, because I figured he'd play right into that sort of thing. He absolutely fucking mauled my character. Died horribly without landing a single significant strike on him.

Some questions to discuss:

How do you play LG without being lawful stupid? What about in a party with CN? CE?

Favorite paladin you've met or played? Have any paladins had a quivering faith that you thought was played well?

Favorite setup? Favorite Oath?

I was rolling in the Wild Magic with a Paladin that held Unicorns as the ultimate holy presence. We ended up locked in a mansion trying to escape some goons breaking down the door when, sure enough, my magic fucked up and the random effect table temporarily popped a Unicorn up next to us. The pally was basically frothing at the mouth losing his shit in joy, but the Unicorn was a cool dude and helped us out with preparing our escape. I hope that guy ends up with a Unicorn mount, it's a good motif.

>How do you play LG without being lawful stupid

I don't know why people have trouble with this. I know a literal aspergers player who can RP Lawful Good properly. You can avoid Lawful Stupid by not being stupid. I guess the important thing is play a character, not an alignment. I hear good-intentioned people say "roleplay your alignment!" but that's the wrong way to go about it IMO. Create the character according to the alignment, then roleplay the character. Important distinction.

>What about in a party with CN? CE?

CE is always going to create friction. You'd better hope that the player with the CE PC is doing it for legit roleplay reasons (i.e those beyond "lol i raep teh king XDDD") and doesn't want to go against the party just for shits and giggles. If they fail the That Guy test then make sure you have an optimized character, or optimized allies, so you can kill That Guy when they pull their That Guy shit. Otherwise you have to go by ear. Edgelord Paladins will show no mercy and smite at the drop of a hat. More measured Paladins may try to redeem Evil characters, or bring in appropriate authorities for great justice.

CN isn't automatically more of a problem than other non-Evil alignments, though unfortunately it is the go-to alignment for That Guys (on the grounds that Evil PCs are often banned). Sans That Guy bullshit, a CN doesn't have to be some amoral derplord. You can do CN characters that are no more extreme examples of the alignment than an average Dwarves are of LN. Overall I'd say you handle it the same way as CE - play along until they step out of line, and gauge your response based on your judgement of the player's motivations.

Spirit Whisperer Wizard 5 / Cleric 1 / Mystic Theurge 10.

Then 2 more level of Wizard and 2 more of Cleric.

/tg/, I'm getting into wh40k because of peer pressure (and wanting to have good times over some beer and a game). But I'm really bothered by how bad engineering is in the 41st millennium.

Let's compare the ostensibly best flier in the game, the Crimson Hunter, to an old U.S. F-16. There don't seem to be that many advantages to the Crimson Hunter.

First of all, it's Armor 10. It's vulnerable to bolter rounds i.e. explosive AA bullets from the ground. This makes it arguably worse than the A-10 but we can say it's on par with the F-16 here. Other than you can't actually hit the F-16 from the ground because it flies at a more reasonable altitude of 40-50,000 feet. Then, the Crimson Hunter has 3 laser guns that fire to a range of about 6-8 apartment buildings' height, so it fires to a range of about 300 feet, hits about 50% of the time and can penetrate the F-16's armor 70% of the time. Wait what? The F-16 on the other hand can have up to 6 Sidewinder guided missiles with a range of 22 miles that will definitely fuck any aircraft up, not to mention several hypersonic AIM-120 missiles with a range of 140 miles and several redundant guidance systems. And of course should that fail, a gatling gun which can fire explosive rounds 10x faster than a bolter and at a much higher range. I think we know who's going to win this one.

In general I'm having a lot of trouble believing this is how warfare would look in the year 40k. I'm not even convinced the combat weapons, even as described in the fluff, are better than the stuff we had in the 80s. But then my friends act like these are super cool weapons and get all excited about them like ooh, I have this poison rifle that has 30% chance to kill a man. Guess what cyanide would do?

Well /rant. I wanted to rant cause I'm spending $200 on dumb bs. For the friends though. But can you make me more excited about this technology?

A squad of space marines can topple entire planetary systems. Thunderhawks are flying bricks that can not only keep pace with, but destroy space cruisers that reach dozens of kilometers in length. Landraiders can drive along ocean floors by design. Terminator armor can survive orbital re-entry without assistance.

Zelda, Resident Evil, and old school adventures have a lot of good examples of how to do puzzles.

They typically break a certain level of the suspension of disbelief, because they're ornate and no one in their right mind would seal their military compound/mystical temple with puzzles a ten-year old could solve, but all a puzzle really needs to be is a short challenge that tests the mind a little.
>>
Do not use puzzles.

Ever. EVER.

All they do is cause the game to come to a screeching halt while players beat their heads against a wall because they're too stupid to figure things out.

And they get mad, and you get mad, and no one has a good time.
