You are Urist Twelfthbay. You are the moe personification of Dwarf Fortress. You are a short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry.

You have, in your hubris, all but ruined the fundamental concepts of time and space, and possibly also cause and effect, as they apply to the nation of Planeptune (aka all things Sega). Currently, the cityscape is undergoing instant remodeling as Neptune turns the trousers of time inside out, retroactively ensuring that previously rejected building plans have always existed for many years since just now.

See, you wanted to impress the goddess's minder by giving said goddess the power to complete paperwork without actually having to do it in the first place. And... well, it /worked/. Y'know, after a fashion. Kind of.

Alright, so you can safely say you've never seen Neptune look so focused before. Sure, she's vacantly staring into the middle distance with a faintly worrying smile on her face, but she IS getting paperwork done. In a physically and temporally impossible manner, but it's the thought that counts.

What probably counts more is the fact that Neptune's efforts have attracted the unwanted attention of one of her rival goddesses, Noire of Lastation, who's flying a beeline right for this building, armed for bear. From the guards' guesstimations, she'll be here in a matter of minutes, and no, she's probably not just making a social call.

... you could really go for a drink right now.

IF curses under her breath, releasing your wrists and letting you stagger to the ground as she turns toward the guard. "Fine. Take me to the Basilicom's entrance. I'll go see what she wants." Her bleak tone of voice tells you just what she thinks of her chances against this kinda divine wrath. "As for you... fix this."

Your heart drops to your stomach. Fix- what, fix /Neptune/?

Iffy's lips purse into a tight, disapproving line. "I don't know what you did to her. I don't think you do, either. But if we don't have at least a partially functioning Neptune by the time Noire gets here, then we're going to be in for a bad time, and I will hold you personally responsible," she deadpans. "Do we have an understanding?"

The trenchcoat-wearing girl doesn't wait for your response before stalking from the room, leaving you staring at Neptune and her paperwork. The sound of signatures being scribbled and sheafs of paper being shuffled fills your ears, impossibly loud as decades worth of documents continue to be retroactively or prospectively filled out.

Right.

... right.

Time to un-fuck yourself.

>CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
[ ] [INTERRUPT] Neptune by deconstructing her furniture. That ought to break off her current job, hopefully without too many adverse and/or time-bendy side effects.
[ ] [DF HACK] got you into this mess, so by Armok it's going to get you OUT of this mess. Shut down her current job, alter its parameters, or outright change it... with ill-defined hacking.
[ ] [BOOKKEEPER] skills ought to untangle whatever loop Neptune's gotten herself stuck in. Pitch in with your own paperwork abilities and see if you can't either stop her or finish the paperwork before she can.
[ ] [DIMENSION DOOR] Nope nope nope nope. You've got a bad feeling about this; grab Neptune, grab Nepgear, and pull out to a safer location. Either you'll save all your asses or divert Noire's attention away from the Basilicom.

Last time, on Dragon Ball Tuffle Quest Z! You reunited with your husband, meeting the Saiyans and Cui, whose bail was posted by Vegeta's brother, Prince Tarble! You make a truce with Nappa and Vegeta to prepare for Freeza, but when you return you're given unsettling news: Korin and Yajirobe are missing! Baba finishes telling you about the supposedly long-gone Herans, dwindled to but a handful from species in-fighting during a major crisis. Homeworld ruined by a disaster brought about from some of the most notorious of their kind. The few survivors becoming space pirates and bandits, with desire to pillage, take, and even conquer a few worlds. One group became such a threat to the stability of the universe the Kais themselves had to step in, sealing away the last of the Herans.

"...is it just me that's getting a bit of deja vu from this?" your brother questions aloud. "Like, did they turn into giant sharks whenever their planet had a New Moon or something?"

"It's a theme that seems far more common than it should, I'll admit." Baba states with a saddened frown. "Still, take that map to Bulma when you can. It's the best shot we have to rescue Korin."

"Dibs!" Acer says aloud, taking it and heading out.

Before you can go out after him, you look to Baba. Her frown softens into a smile. "It is good to have you and everyone else home again, Maple."

You smile back. "Good to be home, auntie Baba."

Outside, you see the kids playing, Acer looking over the map, and Goku and Chi-chi laughing about something.

From one side of the continent of Teege, the knights of Noba, led by Sir Jovan, advance upon the Central region, accompanied by Samson and his companions. They intend on defeating the final loyalists to the Empire without an Emperor, preventing the Gerxel from ever rising to power again by conquering their last stronghold. Even when an ample amount of wyrmite and significant wyvern losses on the Noban front hampered Director Belinda, she only fought back harder, craftier.

On the other side of the continent of Teege, the knights of Neir, led by Queen Hauteclere, pass through the Desert region, Prince Dyrus anxious for the inevitable. He feels a personal grudge against Director Belinda, what with all of her strikes against people close to him and growing up in the region she rules over. The mother Belle was mistreated by to the point where she would rather run from home and fend for herself as a preteen, the mentor who left Nia for dead, branded Winona a traitor for caring about her sister, let Marduk believe his sisters were dead.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9P2Mt2Vh39s

You, Rene, are on the other side of Teege. You wouldn't call yourself "none the wiser" to any of this dire situation for the Central region, but it doesn't currently concern you. Your target is a bandit leader who is VERY likely to be killed if left unattended, after all, and you're certain you need him alive if there's any hope of Emperor Ximeno's plan working. Wasting no time, you arrive in the mountain range where, just days ago, Emperor Ximeno died, thankful that this Conrad wasn't stupid enough to challenge the entire rebel army on his own like expected.

"So," Veiz asks, your party standing on the end of the path leading up to Conrad's mountain fortress, "what is our plan for recruiting Conrad? I doubt we'll be able to up and ask..."

"We could certainly try to be civil," you suggest. "I mean, he's already demonstrated that he's capable of restraint..." Drawing your Steel Lance for effect, you add, "but... he is still a bandit, and their first language is bloodshed. If he's not willing to cooperate, I could challenge him to a duel."

"So violent..." Sara remarks, flying down from the skies above. "I should hope my younger brother isn't like that..."

"Oh, Sara, hello. Did you see anything up there?" You ask.

"Nothing good," she answers. "We're being blocked in..."

"Blocked in? By who, exactly?" Veiz asks.

"Coming in from the North... It looks like mercenaries led by an old man with an axe and a girl with blue hair..."

"Sir Darren," you remark bitterly. The legendary warrior who betrayed your Empire, a friend to your father, to Methodius, a pillar for all soldiers to strive to emulate. "And... From the South?"

"Wait, no..." Saye sniffs loudly, "it can't be..."

"...it appears to be other wolfskin," Sara says, confirming whatever Saye was to say. "I believe that they're here to exterminate bandits..."

"No, not just any wolfskin," Saye says, shaking her head. "After all our time together, I would know Director Chiffon's scent anywhere." Another smelling motion, and a recoil, "and someone with a REALLY strong perfume. But why would someone mask their scent like that?"

"A mystery we can ponder at a later time," Cicero says, facing Saye and grasping her shoulders, a grim look in his eye. "Saye... I know that you valued the trust of Director Chiffon quite a lot, so we need to know now: will you be able to fight, should your kinsmen confront us?"

"I... Loved the Wolfskin region dearly," Saye says, "but I really don't think it was right for Chiffon to turn his back on the Empire in its hour of need. Garou aren't fair-weather friends! I made my decision when I went to follow you guys after..."

Cicero nods, letting go. "Sorry for doubting you."

>>Information

This quest, as the title suggests, takes place in the world of Dragon Ball. You're playing as a thirteen year old boy named Tofoo, and will adventure through the story of the Dragonball series alongside characters such as Goku, Yamcha, Bulma, Tien, and many others. Through your actions, you can make significant changes to the story, and perhaps even become the strongest fighter on Earth.

>Rules

At the end of each update you'll have ten minutes to vote on options. Write-ins are allowed, but I do reserve the right to veto them.

In the event of a draw, the option to receive the next vote wins

Rolls will be used on certain occasions, such as attempting a technique for the first time or attempting something extremely difficult. You will have three rolls, and if one succeeds, you succeed. There are no crits.

Rolls are made AFTER an option wins, not during the voting process

I hope everyone has fun.

You bend Launch's gun, and you're pretty sure she's about to take a swing at you. So, you talk fast, explaining that Blue's a General in the Red Ribbon Army, and worth a fortune in ransom.

"That right?" she asks.

Next thing you know, she's dashing toward the submarine, hopping in and smirking deviously as she directs the vehicle away from the island, vanishing into the distance with Blue.

"Who was that?" Bulma asks.

"Launch," Goku says. "You've met her already."

"But Launch was nice the last time I saw her," Bulma comments.

"Yeah, we hear that a lot," Krillin says.

This is BEFORE the resistance to non magical weapons AND TO MAGIC

Does anyone else use the crit fails and successes on skill checks house rule?

I don't mean the "oh you crit failed to walk up stairs so your legs explode" or "oh I rolled a nat 20 to eat Tiamat" junk.

Our group only rolls skill checks when there is a chance for failure or success. If we crit fail, something a little worse than normal failure happens. If we nat 20, then we auto succeed.

It's been fun so far for our D&D 5e game.
17 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>47946402

I don't use them. 10% chance of silliness is too high.

Your auto-succeed on 20 doesn't seem to make any difference because you only allow tests that can succeed anyway. I can see the appeal of just having crit failures, it does mean that players will think twice about 'brute forcing' a skill check by just rolling until they pass. On the other hand it could work against you in a high octane situation where quite a lot might be riding on those checks (DMs shouldn't design encounters that way, but sometimes players come up with plans that DO hinge on a few checks).
>>
>>47946402
No, D&D's probability scale is too short and too discrete to justify me accepting a 10% chance of ludicrousness, and 5% chance of succeeding at any given task, regardless of the odds.
>>
>>47946557
I guess it all comes down to the atmosphere of your game honestly. We just have and don't take things too seriously or too lolz random.

If you are trying to keep a serious or grim tone I can understand letting that chance of something silly or odd happening could ruin the mood.

In reality, there's a pretty limited set of creature types that live in caves - bat, fish, arachnids, a few amphibious types, and then some bigger mammals that just chill at cave openings sometimes but don't really count as 'cave-dwellers'.

I'm trying to come up with interesting creatures for a cave system in a world I'm building, but I want it to remain pretty low-fantasy, so no dragons or trolls, unfortunately. (seems like high fantasy worlds have a whole set of skeletons, trolls, lizards, and ghouls to fill their caves because other people were having the same problem)

Anybody have any ideas/other interesting works to reference?

Albino cannibals who only leave the caves under cover of darkness. Basically morlocks.

What about pale skinned, blind neanderthals that have lived and evolved in caves since the beginning of man? You could make a story on this that there has been a town legend or something about these "people" because they have been scene once or twice wandering outside the cave since [change] happend.

>Pathfinder game I was new to /tg/ okay
>Be Barbarian in a party with a Cleric and a Fighter
>Fighting against BBEG, a goddess of darkness trying to bring about eternal night
>Cleric is dominated
>Fighter is being force choked, will die in a couple of rounds
>I do the one thing I can do - full attack, orc double axe
>both shots are crits
>one rolls max damage, the other one below
>TPK prevented
>Goddess now maimed, I severed her horn with the blow
People called my character Grak Hornbreaker from that day forth.
>>
>be a party of 5 fairly strong adventurers
>been fighting humans worshipping an evil God who wants death and diseases
>we fight our way through a lot of shit, and because these cultists are pretty fucking resourceful, they opened a gate to the plane this god inhabits
>we go there to stop the god
>the rest of the party legitimately wants to kill the god, my character just wanted this cult stopped once and for all, and our attempts clearly didn't deter them.
>finally get to the god
>surprise, a god is fucking strong as hell
>upon declaring our intent to destroy the god, she becomes furious
>warrior immediately gets maimed
>sorcerer gets mindcrushed and falls over
>berserker goes to attack, and literally gets thrown 500 meters up in the air after striking the god, barely surviving the fall, and not even scratching the god
>archer fires a supposedly "God slaying arrow" which pisses off the god
>I was playing a rogue who had a cloak that made sneaking past even supernatural senses quite easy, and was sneaking up on the god
>realize we cannot fight this, and takes a different approach
>sneak attack slap the god.
>the god is thown off guard, and during this brief moment of attention, I start lecturing this diety of death and disease
>"We kinda need you around here, but your cultists are making a mess down there. Would you kindly just make them stop?
>God hesitates
>asks me why he should stop his priests from doing her bidding
>shrug and just give a lame line about it just attracting this kind of attention, from heroic adventurers trying to do good stuff.
>God laughs, and lets us go, in exchange for me staying
>group tries to argue OC, but only the archer is in a position to say anything, and decides not to.

My character was retired (obviously) and then in a campaign two years later, we hear of this god again. Turns out my character got used as a missionary for the god trying to "reimagine" herself as a slightly more benevolent god.

Well I got a story about how a player got slapped BY a god and lived.
>Be at final boss of game
>Almost unkillable godlike being
>Giving dramatic speech about how we're going to fail and she's going to remake the world in her image and blahblahblah
>Orc pirate character speaks up, interrupting her
"That's really cute *wittle god*"
>DM look at the players and goes
"Uhm, do you really say that?"
>Player looks around a tad concerned before saying with a smile
"Of course"
>Villain goes to use touch of death in the form of a bitchslap
>Player rolls a nat20 on a save and lives
>Villain even more offended, spends an action point to do it again
>Player rolls another nat20 and gets dropped to 1hp, but is still alive.
>We proceed to annihilate the "wittle god" through non-conventional means as direct combat won't work.
>Orc character ascends to godhood and become the god of the seas, pirates, and cooking halflings (that last one is a small story of itself)
>This character is still a reoccurring god character in our games 2 years later.

Sup /tg/.

Anyone have experience with this system? I've been thinking of running it for my group of turbo weebs and would love to hear any stories.

Either about the system itself, the party or even full storytimes.

It's all good in my book.

Apparently there's a new version but it looks kind of dead.

I have experience with third and fourth drafts, but what exactly do you want to know about it?

Ewen works in fits and starts. It's not permanently dead but he hasn't said anything about it in a while.

How quickly can it be set up? How's the balance? Should I change some of those tables to be more "magical girl" and less ecchi fanservice schlock? Nothing against that type of thing per se but it seems really out of place if you're not running Prism Ina or what that shit was called.
