Instructor, may I have a word with you if you may?

I'd like to understand how killing one of our own guardsmen can be of any contribute to raising morale if the Guardsmen isnt being dissentive or otherwise a nuissance to the regiment?

Where I'm from? the Paradise world of Askelphion Secondus? Why do you ask sir?

To put something more frightening than the enemy behind them. Dismissed.
>>
>>44100758
Guardsmen are only executed in scenarios in which the unit is in danger of breaking and retreating.
The Guardsman executed is clearly the one suggesting retreat under conditions in which that would be cowardly, tactically dubious, and detrimental to morale. His execution reminds the men that the coward's fate is always death, and thus it is better to die heroes serving the Emperor rather than cowards serving themselves.

This is truly the most idiotic question a Commissar has ever asked. I suggest you flagellate yourself in penance, and contemplate your utter failure to understand the proper application of summary execution.
>>
Gaunt makes a point that summary executions should only be used in veteran units that have seen plenty of combat to galvanize them and remind them of their place.

If summary execution is used on fresh-faced rookies, they'll likely either panic or have their morale completely broken, which is the opposite of what a commissar is supposed to do.

In other words, only shoot the Cadians when they start running in circles and waving their arms around.

/tg/, how the hell do I start GMing?

GMs for my current and past groups have either been shit or unreliable. I've got no creativity and no ability to improvise, but I'm not gonna be able to have a decent group with friends if I don't step up to the plate. What do?

I have the mechanics for Shadowrun, GURPS, and a little bit of 3.5 down. I'm trying to pick up Degenesis as well. Bonus points if you can help with specific systems, though I'd like to avoid 3.5 if I can.

Use adventure modules. GMing is not difficult to do well. Read an adventure until you remember the gist of most situations. Keep the print-out on the table to refer back to. Make some quick-hit notes for stat blocks, difficulty modifiers, and whatever. Then run players through them.

Frankly, D&D is an easier place to learn GMing than virtually any other system, because it's where GMing comes from and what has the most adventures published. Virtually every RPG out there is based on being similar to or different from D&D, or it is based on a derivative of something based on being similar to or different from D&D. That's just a fact of how things that come after the first kind of a thing work. 3.5 is a pain in the ass to try to do because it's sorta a shit-show and has way too much horribly-written crunch and varying power levels. But any other edition at all has plenty of published adventures and is easy to pick up if you have 3.5 down-ish.

1. watch videos or learn from other dm
2. use premade sets and read along
3. dont force story but dont let your players bully you
4. make sure your players have agency, otherwise you're just reading them your fanfic

When you need to come up with something on the fly, try asking your players to come up with it instead.

>You're on a quest for a legendary artifact. What artifact are you seeking?

>What does the bartender look like? Well, you decide. What do you think they could look like?

It gives players an opening to be invested in your game, and takes some of the worldbuilding burden off you. It doesn't work with every group, of course, but it can be great fun when it does.

>Brew Edition
>Standard Discussion

Hey TG,

Since Battle came out, I've wanted to create a deck based around pic related and the Battlelands (or whatever you fags call em these days)

I've had difficulty coming up with something that I think would work.

The shell:

>4 Windswept Hearth
>3 Canopy Vista
>3 Prairie Stream
>4 Lumbering Falls
>3 Island
>6 Plains

>4 Knight of the White Orchid

I don't have any Flooded Strands, and probably won't be getting any, but the mana base seems to work out very well. It's the rest of the deck I'm trying to figure out. Also, INB4 Jace.

My latest brew (untested)

>4 Woodland Wanderer
>2 Gaea's Revenge
>3 Halimar Tidecaller

>1 Negate
>1 Disperse
>4 Anticipate
>1 Become Immense
>3 Turn to Frog
>3 Coastal Discovery
>4 Stasis Snare
>4 Scatter to the Winds

Thoughts? Suggestions? I put Turn to Frog over Silkwrap as a way to deal with Jace, but also trigger spell mastery/delve.

What are the real most interesting ways to tempt good guys towards naughty deeds? Not necessarily paladins (too easy and too overdone ie having sex with the devil) or even pertaining to alignments in general so much as your average decent person adventurer.

It's the best one though. Betraying everything for sex is great, whether it's good turning evil for sex or evil turning good for sex.

Of course it doesn't have to be sex, but that's just the most obvious.

After the strawpoll is over can you do a vote pitting the top two results vs eachother?

For example right now Big Guy and Battle Chef are the two top voted choices, so atter a while do a poll where those are the only choices.

The advantage is that it finds a true majority since it allows people who voted for less popular choices to revise their vote.

I don't know what I would even google for this question so I'm shitting up this board with my retardation

How do you determine how high a roll has to be in order for it to succeed? It's such a basic thing but I never found anything exact after a quick search. Right now my group just uses anything 10 and above for nearly anything which doesn't separate telling a guard you're here on official business and to let you through or telling that guard to commit suicide
Now this doesn't seem like something one would type out to me so would someone kindly point me towards the page/s in the handbook or some resource

So the other /tg/ brought up an interesting concept called Memepunk, and I was hoping you guys could expand on it, since they're pretty slow compared to you guys. Besides, /tg/ gets shit done.

Here are the fleshed out concepts so far:
>Memepunk (or Hipsterpunk). The post-cyberpunks won, but at the cost of banality. The highest of tech is now available to the common man, but instead of making the world whole it made it a whole bunch of selfish dicks. Everyone claims to think they know what is best for the world and give it their all to mould the world into their point of view, trampling over anyone thinking differently with all methods available. The Internet is even faster than before, demanding everyone to keep up or get outdated at a horrifying speed. Microblogging and social media is where it's at, and these websites alongside online media conglomerates control the status quo and the thought of the public.
>Indie companies appear, rise in fame and riches, then just as suddenly collapse as people move on to the next new thing
>Shadowrunners now undermined by meme-loving fucks who think Shadowrunning is fun and cool and awesome and not something most people do just to survive in the world
>This results in whatever megacorps can still catch up with the latest internet references to pander to the new wave of "Shadejoggers"
>Memes are quite literally the way of life now, and what were once subtle, comedic in-jokes are now overused and stale "jokes" that once again, undermine the seriousness of those who once used them
>Saying "geeked" is the equivalent of saying "pwn'd", "drek" is as overused as "kek", etc.

i need some help coming up with some mutations/deviations for the magical disciplines that a magic is divided into. the mage will get a mutation from the discipline that the spell he miscast falls under.

the 5 disciplines
>fleshshaping
healing, metamorphosis, necromancy, augmentation, weakening etc.

>elemental
any magic based on the 4 classical elements; earth, air, fire, and water.
>protean sorcery
magic that can shape and transmute non-living things (includes thins that are now dead).
>evocations
anti-magic/meta-magic, non-elemental effects, and summoning/control of supernatural beings.
>mesmerism
mind control, illusions, psychosomatic effects, brain enhancing magic and telepathy.
10 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>44099884
some of the mutations i have so far are
>fleshshaping
crippling deformation, deformations, alien fratures, animal features, weakening of the body, premature ageing
>elemental
suseptability to an element, deformation related to an element
>protean sorcery
deformation involving non-living matter integrated into flesh
>evocations
supernatural mutations, spiritual damage
>mesmerism
insanity, retardation
>>
Seems like a fine enough list, but if you use Evocation as non-elemental effects its going to confuse people since Evocation was the original school of magic where fireballs and lightning bolts come from.

I like it at least because it doesn't force players into using elemental magic, since I'm not a big fan of that.
>>
>>44099884
If my understanding of your concept is correct, then you need some sort of passive variable that can be manipulated by what level the spell is cast at.

For example:
Mutation index:
>1-5
Healing spell Levels:
>1-10

Cleric John Smith casts Light Healing at Level 2, of which the spell has a Mutation Index of 1. He fucks up. The Mutation Index is multiplied by the Spell Level and gets a mutation of Grade 1

Mutation Grades:
>Grade 1 = 1-10
>Grade 2 = 11-20
>Grade 3 = 21-30
>Grade 4 = 31-40
>Grade 5 = 41+

Then its just up to the DM to describe what sort of mutation happens. This could be from a generic list or heavily specialize based on the situation. Keep it flexible. In this case Cleric John Smith might get a small patch of skin blight on his arm.

More extreme examples
>Necromancer Jane Doe casts Wither. She fucks up. Wither has a MI of 4 but she cast it at Level 6. That gives us 24 and thus, a Grade 3 Mutation. At this point Jane doubles over screaming as her entire arm, bone and all, instantly liquefacts and sloughs off into a puddle of putrescence.

>Bard Tommy Lee attempts to cast Mass Telepathy to scour the city for any signs of the cult. He fucks up. Mass Telepathy has a MI of 3 but he had to beef up and cast it at Level 12 in order to get the whole city. That gives us 36 and a Grade 4 mutation. His mind forms a sort of psychic stoma and now their is a constant stream of bits of thoughts leaking from him all the time.

Clocking in at 600-700 models from the decade of collecting I've been going for. Most are still unbuilt, some unpainted, but a good 250 are painted and played with fairly regularly.
I'm starting to think I might just buy them with the intention of hoarding them rather than painting and playing with them. At least I only go for cheap 2nd hand deals now...

How about you fellas? Just got a couple of squads or are you neck deep in models like me?

Dnd is built with the 1 to 20 number range in mind, but ons is it guaranteed miss and 20 is a guaranteed to hit.

Will you make more sense to roll a D22? With a face reading zero for the guaranteed hit and a face reading 21 as the guaranteed hit?

No. Because some things, like skills, just count the natural 20 as 20+modifiers.
