I'm gonna bring my low-budget R/U Thopter spam deck down to my LGS later this week and give it a shot. Shame I have to take out Muzzio though since my store is pretty anal about sets, he's won me some games in casual play

This is but one of the many legends told among the people...

But who are your people?
Are you Tajil, hailing from the northern deserts and twin oasis?

Or Perhaps you are a sturdy Maroner, heir to the great forest and mighty rivers?

Although you can easily be Ikujin, keepers of the mountain pass and the masters of the sea.
Which one of these three?

(you have 5 minutes to choose, folks)

So some recent writefaggotry of mine is dealing with the Ordo Sicarius, and I was wondering if any of you have used the minor ordos in any of your games or fanfluff. Seen plenty of alien hunters, daemon hunters, and witch hunters. But what about man hunters, zombie hunters, robot hunters, time cops, and all the other little groups that make up the obscure rungs of the Inquisition?

I'm actually budgeting for a new Militarum Tempestus army. Fluffwise they'll be the henchmen for a radical Inquisitor of the Ordo Astartes, who believes that the best way to oversee Space Marine chapters is through violent action.
>>
>>44581194

A black ops unit specifically for hunting down rogue super soldiers? Hmmm where have I heard of that before.
>>
>>44577778
I once started writing a series of short stories about an agent for the Ordo Sepulturum (zombie hunters) - I envisioned them as 50% Inquisitorial agency, 50% intergalactic doctors without borders.

I feel like that would be an interesting way to run them in Dark Heresy, not so much as kitted out 'zombie hunters' but as though they were the CDC: spending most of their time chasing rumours of new diseases, investigating each new outbreak, hoping they wont prove to be a warp-engineered viruses, and always on the lookout for the dreaded zombie plague.

Man doesn't break from the swing of a hammer, but from the slow and constant drive of a nail into his skull.

Sup /tg/, I'm here to today to talk about madness, insanity, and all those ticking neuroses that we mistake for individuality. I am not content with Lovecraftian views of madness, where it is some barrier that cracks from too much knowledge and suddenly you're a gibbering mess. Especially in many roleplaying systems where insanity is present, it is treated as an end-state equivalent to death.

I want to try making a small prototype system in which madness is a source of action, not the end of it. Where a character's perverted worldview replaces skills and abilities.

Currently I am trying to formulate all the types of madness that I could tie to one or more actions. Rather than a general "Madness", I want a long list of the savory types that may be lurking in your own skull.

Example, instead of a general social stat, there could be something like Madness: Loneliness, in which a character's need to be around others drives their ability to do so. Yet, it also may also force them towards poor choices, in the name of someone to talk to. More specific social skills could come from other madnesses, such as diplomatic ability from Madness: Approval-Starved and lying ability from Madness: Paranoid.

Each Madness is like a beast. The larger the beast, the more it can do for you, but the more food it demands. The more you feed it, the larger it gets. It is thus both a craving and a means to fulfill itself. You may attempt to force the beast to hibernate, become smaller, but to do so is never a pleasant experience.

That is what I have in mind. Where I task you all know is to help me in developing a list of potential madnesses, each one in terms of what it does and what it demands. Don't limit yourselves, no ideas are bad ideas.

So as not to be purely selfish, let's also perhaps chat about the portrayal of mental issues in games and stories. Your thoughts?

Oh...I do love a hint of insanity in the morning.
How about making 7 Sins as the root of the madness?
For example: Lust -> Paranoia or Wrath -> mood swings
Pride-> Habitual liar

It's an idea. Sins are close to what I'm getting at, in that they too feed themselves. My only problem is I'd like a lot more than 7, and having a "root" for every madness isn't neccisarily the route I want to go. I gave Lonliness as an example general social, and then Approval-Seeking and Paranoia from there to be more specific, but Approval-Seeking could easily be replaced with Lonliness for diplomacy without a general skill. In fact, now that I think about it, I like that idea better.

Though I may also need more poetic names. "Loneliness" and "Paranoia" are well-translated, but not particularly interesting sounding.

How much preparation do you guys do for a session of GMing?

Are you the type who likes to wing it, or does every detail have to be thought of beforehand?

Pic sorta related.

I'm honestly not sure how much prep I do for a game. I almost never play online campaigns and with the community I play with (mostly semi-strangers or acquaintances in a lot of the games) asking about the prep or even questioning the GM is looked down upon, so I could be overpreparing or underpreparing.

Most of the time however, I'll prepare the local area map with the several villages or equivalent the party might go to, with things like a few important places per area and important figures with a name and a (albiet cliche for most NPCs) personality and some situations to either act as a side story or a hook for quests

I'll make a quick list of any loot that might be found during the next session and, if I have time or the inclination, one or two other ways a certain problem might be resolved.

For a 4 hour session I'll probably do something like 1 hour of prep and have a decent think about anything that might come up.

New GM here, 3 sessions in.

My first one I planned tons, characters, lines for said characters, everything. Needless to say, come the actual session I railroaded horribly and my players weren't happy.

Session two I planned a end to the mini-plotline where we left off last session and made a few scenarios and NPCs. It was OK, players certainly had more agency, but we had to cut it short (which was good, I was running out of material) and i was still a bit rigid with my plans.

Session 3, last Sunday, I walked in completely blind with some stats made up (statblock? Is that the right word?) and winged EVERYTHING. Best session yet, all my players loved it, we went 2 hours over time and didn't stop because of how much fun it was.

moral of the story, turns out I have +8 to bluff and improvisation.
>>
>>44575077
I create settings as a separate hobby, and I just toss parties in there.

It's both winging it and preparing I guess.

Always been a big fan of Cyberpunk as a genre, in regards to RPG systems I'm always been a big fan of CP2020 with Shadowrun as a close second (2nd edition for everything requiring a hard connection, though I guess wi-fi is alright)

Recently some friends asked me to run a Cyberpunk game and while my first thought is to use CP2020 I've found mention of a fan-made successor called Interlock Unlimited.

So, first and foremost let's have a discussion on Cyberpunk systems what do some do better than others, should some be avoided altogether. Stuff like that.

Second, and tying into some of the above how is Interlock Unlimited as a system? Is it a worthy successor? What does it do better than CP2020 if anything?

I haven't heard anything about Interlock Unlimited, I've been using Interface Zero and that's been going quite well. I was already a fan of Savage Worlds when I started, so if you're willing to dip into the rules and setting deep enough (one of which is optional, the other definitely not) it can be super rewarding cyberpunk fun.

Also has a shitload of races, VR rules and items to choose from which makes things nice. My only complaint is that there's not enough statted drugs or definitive TAP rules to really ground yourself for the first few sessions.

first off, i already know about Hero Forge. it's a nice idea, but for me to be content, it would need about four times as many options in every single category. and at least more control over the placement and orientation of in-hand objects.

if it's not already evident, i'm wondering what sort of price range - perhaps even suggestions for specific models - i should expect to pay for a 3D printer to use to make tabletop minis. while most of what i'd intend to make is typical 25mm minis, if possible, i'd probably like to make the occasional larger mini, or even small statuettes to commemorate some of my favourite characters - probably about 6 inches in height. as for quality, i'd probably be happy with a level of detail comparable to the image.

>>44574403
3D printing on your own in acceptable quality is not a price-efficient way to get one-off miniatures, it's just not.

3D printing, especially if you want a printer that doesn't suck ass only really pays for itself if you design and print a miniature, tidy it up a bit (polish etc, resculpting some stuff if needed) and then reproduce that miniature by making a silicone mold and casting it in resin.
>>
>>44574500
So to clarify: It's a really good way if you want like, 100 of the same custom miniature, it's very bad if you just want 1, since the one-time investment per miniature is too high unless you make molds of it and create multiples.
>>
i see. makes sense. i do have friend who's a pewterer that i could probably convince to make molds if i wanted to go that route, but, of course, the intent was to have individual custom minis, not armies of the same (although i could probably still find a use for that).

still, can it not be at least slightly offset by making a lot of different customs? i know that would eat up a ridiculous amount of time, but i don't really have any other time-consuming hobbies right now. outside of simply playing tabletop RPGs, of course.
