/vp/'s been bad about whiteknighting in general. There's always been a vocal bunch who loved Gen VI and who trash every other game in an attempt to defend Gen VI, but they've gotten louder since the start of 2016. They'll defend any little thing about the S&M leaks, which to be fair we can't judge them fully yet since the games aren't released but there's been a ton of "Pokémon is a game for children, it's not made for you so stop complaining about [various casualizations]."
GO has been much worse than all of that combined though, since everyone with a brain saw it would be shit from the start, and when it was confirmed shit with its release the shills started frenzying.

The anime? There's a highschool teacher, who's obsessed with zetsubou (means despair), and the anime is about him and his interactions with the weird bunch of high school girls he teaches.
It has a neat unique art style, and very typical pacing and animation for the studio that made it, Shaft. It's also full of references and meta stuff. It's quite popular on /a/.
Never was a big fan myself. Mostly just not a fan of how Shaft makes anime.
Or do you mean that specific daily thread. I don't think it ever had any topic beyond just becoming a daily thread about the anime. Don't even remember the context of the screenshot.

That episode in particular was about "slow jokes and delayed laughs" if I remember correctly, so after examples and examples satirizing slows jokes one character just said what's "Don't forget to laugh seven years from now" (that's the OP pic). Forgot to mention said hard drive has to be removed from an old laptop that may or may not work (it's a schroedinger's 2008 acer aspire. In quantum states of being bricked and unbricked). If I get bored enough to partially disassemble a laptop, I'll get back to you on that.
