I don't know about Austria, but atleast in Finland pre-election votes aka postal votes are more prone to abuse. In the actual election day votes you get to put your vote in the ballot box and it will be counted on the same day by people from all parties.
In the postal votes you have basically two election officials (they could be leftists) who you trust to handle your paper and post it. Sometimes they don't even close the brief when you're around, but I always insisted they do. But even if they do that they could think that "hey, this guy doesn't look like a SJW lets put his vote in the trash bin".
