I have an idea for a coastal town that celebrates a big feast whenever they survive a surge of local pest population.

Fire projector, a series of billboard light gems hooked to point at a mirror and project a beam of igniting light.

Rituals:
A prayer to the Omegalon, saviour of the town and destroyer of ships.
An unknown mutant that wrecked a ship of returning plundering soldiers and has kept the town safe for 2 centuries.
Regular offerings of fruits and vegetables are made to the barnacle encrusted island it swims around.
Tradition:
Showing the little foals the town protector and letting them hug one of its thorn encrusted tentacles.
The resulting poison induced drug trip shows them their talent and gives them a CM.

What you see here began as a series of comedy-centric stories with the concept of an alicorn-ascended Princess Applejack trying to change a mismanaged Equestria for the better by humorously interacting with the other, quite lazy, princesses.
Not to mention a whole bunch of Changelings with nothing better to do but cause mischief.
The whole thing was set in motion by this gem:
