What decides what accessories you get on your weapon when in the military? I see some soldiers with ACOGs, EOTechs, flashlights, foregrips SOPMOD stocks, fixed stocks, full length barrels, etc, so what decides what you get to put on your rifle?

It's basically summer, and I want to go shooting with fellow /k/omandos, the nuggetfest threads are making me jealous that the socal meetups never work out. I hear there is a slack for it but the people that have invite power never seem to make threads about SoCal meetups. North County San Diego here, I have guns, ammo, a car, and camping equipment. I know that the I know that the northern California meet up as happening soon, this thread can be for that to but I don't want to drive 12 hours to go shooting for a weekend. Does anybody know any good spots to shoot in...

There are many good spots down south. As long as we don't have meets on the same days (because sometimes people do willingly drive across the whole state) more successful socal meets would be fantastic.
Current meets are planned on June 7th, and 25,25,26.

Carrying a rifle or shotgun at the low ready is exactly like carrying your pistol out of its holster and should be treated the same way.

How would /k/ free up this seized extractor? I've got it soaking in break free. Every pin I have used to try to drive the pin out has bent.
soak it in kroil instead.
When the gun came in it was so seized I could not even rack the slide, drop the magazine or manipulate the safety. This is how pitted the inside of the frame is.

Hi /k/, Europoor here.
I have an old Swedish nagant revolver whose wooden grips have basically rotten away. I'm in the process of substituting them and I was thinking of making them myself. I have access to woodworking tools, so that shouldn't be a problem.
The problem is that I don't know which wood to use. We have plenty of pine in the local hardware stores but it's too soft I think.
Any suggestion on the type of wood or alternative easily available materials?

I am going to go hunting with some friends of mine this summer, which I have never actually done before. I would like to try and hunt with bow and arrows, but i dont have a lot of experience with handbows, so im wondering what kind of bow i should get.
Could anyone share their experiences with me and help me find a bow to begin with?

If you're going recurve, you might need to start practicing now, because recurve takes practice and good form. Not to mention I think states have their own requirements on how much poundage you need to hunt with.
Get a compound bow, it's easier to hunt with, especially for someone not as familiar with bows. It's also a tad bit more forgiving if your form isn't solid. Not to mention you have let-off that lets you hold at full draw with 70-80% of the weight off (vs. recurve where you hold...

google how to find length of draw for beginners. It's usually from palm of one arm extended perpendicular to body to your face. But you should look it up for clarity.
In terms of draw weight, your run-of-the mill compounds can be adjusted, (but you suually need a tool to check what weight it's at everytime you change it, I see a lot of 40-60# bows.
You also should read up on state hunting requirements for bow poundage on whatever game you're hunting. I mean, I'm sure there are people...
