wouldn't it be nice to pack your own side arm on deployments I could have carried my SIG P220 instead of my shitty A2 in Kuwait... I didn't carry a weapon to often but the few times I did a pistol would have been enough and easier to deal with

Gents, I'm in a bit of a conundrum. I'll soon be coming up on the end of a military enlistment and my POG ass will be leaving California to head back to freedom(ish) land. Obviously I'll need a new pistol for concealed carry. I love my 1911 to death, but I'm not willing to swap out my wardrobe for the amount of hawaiian shirt it would take to conceal that on my skinny boyish frame.
Here is my thinking so far: If I'm going to be firing a small frame handgun, I'd prefer it to be 9x19. I know, I know, "muh stopping power", but I honestly...

In short, it depends.
If you have a good holster that covers the trigger guard, you shouldn't have a problem.
Then again I have no idea how your normal day goes in terms movement
I have a p11 and I don't think there's any way I could actuate the trigger with anything in my pants especially when holstered.

I have an lcp and in a holster tsp totally fine. Even without having one you'd probably be good as long as nothing else is in the pocket.
If you are afraid of it carry for a week or whatever with it cocked and an empty chamber. See if it fires. It won't. It would take some doing to manipulate the trigger through your pants even without a holster. Properly holstered it would be practically impossible.

Mission creep. The LCS was supposed to fill a role that included nominal corvette work, minesweeping, deploying amphibious assault vehicles, ASW, AND be capable of traditional surface actions. The Navy bought the "mission module" idea and plunked it in a boat that was too small to do everything it tried. Like a Swiss army knife, it's great in concept but the execution was lackluster.

Field strip it completely, clean off all the storage preservative, punch and clean the bore for the same reason, lube up anything that slides, pivots, or rotates then throw it back together.
Many moons ago DD sized their gas ports for 5.56 pressures where especially new before the gas rings lapped in and the carrier rails smoothed out, they would have trouble with low power .223. My first (so far only) ar was a dd, but I spent hours researching it and thinking about my needs. I knew how many spare mags I needed, I knew the sights I wanted on it, and I knew the drills I'd do at the range. I knew how to take it apart and clean it. I knew just about everything there was to know about the ar platform
You don't deserve such a fine firearm if you're asking these questions.

So /K/. I'm in the market for a new rifle in a bigger caliber. After some searching I found I like the CVA Hunter. Anyone familiar with it? And as far as calibers go, 7mm seems the most promising but it's not one I'm familiar with. Any input? But let's make this a big game hunting thread. Big rifles. Big bullets. And big animals. Assuming you're talking about 7MM Rem Mag it's one of the best all-around cartridges that can take up to a lot of heavy North American game, but it is certainly not a "big game rifle."
Biggest thing is test what the gun likes for bullets and keep buying that particular brand for hunting. If you want to get super autistic, reload.
That being said make sure the barrel is on the longer side for that caliber, around 26" I think is what is recommended for the 7Mag.

I see you meant 7mm-08. I hear a lot of good things about it, but I've never fired it personally.
Assuming you're talking about a big bore rifle that will kill most things within 100 yards, go .45-70 and get a single stage reloader to make some pellet gun loads.
If you're thinking about the .35 Whelen, talk to a few old timers at the range. They can give you a lot of advice on that particular cartridge.
Hello /k/, long time /pol/ack here, didn't want to bring this to /b/, so I thought this is the best place.
I'll be starting at new university this fall as a sophomore and am interested in doing ROTC. Leaning towards AF, but am open to Army/Navy. I'm afraid I might be DQ'd based on some things. I talked to a ROTC recruiter at my school and they basically said we won't know until I'm in the program etc.
In your opinion, and I know it's a crapshoot, will these significantly reduce my chances of becoming an officer?
