I'd recommend getting into a good level of fitness before participating in a contact sport. That being said, you're looking to get into SFAS so you'll end up with ubiquitous joint pain anyway.

Depends on if you're going officer after rotc or just enlisting. If you do the officer route you have to be waiting on your CPT promotion before you can attend SFAS

Just curious /k/, how many human bodies could a .223 round penetrate? I know that there are varying factors that would affect this so let's just say that the people are in a cramped space like a nightclub. We can assume that clothes are either not present at all or light and only a single layer. Body type is probably going to be /fit/.

I just turned 21 today and thus I'm elegible to get a concealed carry gun license. Now, I don't want a whole lot of weapons YET and I wouldn't want to carry something I don't like. Which is, well, most pistols. But I really like Makarov for some reason. I've only shot it a few times, but hey, I like it, it is fairly cheap here and so is the ammo, and it is a relatively small pistol. So, how do you think it would do as a concealed carry?

Depends on your body size/clothing. Its defintely doable as long as youre not rail thin or wear relatively tight clothing. Might not be the most comfortable choice, but being comfortable shooting it is more important. If you can pull it off without printing, go for it.

Having put 150 rounds through my Mak for the first time the other day, here's how I feel about it: the gun is accurate, shoots fine, and has more than enough power (just shoot the son of a bitch twice if you're worried,) but I have a real problem with how the safety works. Basically, the safety doubles as a decocker. So if you put the safety on, it automagically decocks the gun. There is no way to carry "cocked and locked" and that means your first shot after drawing will always, always be double-action, and the double-action trigger pull on the Makarov is fucking HEAVY. I mean, it's like dragging a fucking piano across the kitchen floor with just your index finger.
If you're okay with that, or you prefer that for "safety," go for it. But as someone who carries a 1911, that drives me fucking nuts.

First time visitor to your board, I was wondering if you guys could help me compile a list of terms most often misused or misunderstood during the current debate on gun rights and gun safety.
Please note, I am NOT interested in having the debate here, it is going on elsewhere in ore than sufficient quantities. I just think it is impossible to have meaningful debate on any topic without having some basic understanding of the topic, and I am seeing way too many misuses of terms of the art in the debate. Given that my own knowledge of this area is not what it should bee, if I am seeing so many, you guys are probably seeing more.
I already have the difference between "assault weapon" and "assault rifle," and the difference between semi-automatic" and "automatic."
What else should be on a list of terms to be clarified?

WHile I am here, I'll ask you guys to help me understand the difference between "clip" and "magazine." If I understand right, a clip is used to align and feed cartridges into a magazine, a magazine is then used to supply the cartridges to the gun using some variant on a spring action. That about it, or am I missing something?

the "AR" in AR-15 stands for Armalite Rifle not Assault Rifle, and the AR-15 was made originally for civilian use (The M-16 being the automatic assault rifle the Army used in Nam)

A clip is the bullets in a magazine (that's why you load fixed mag guns with a clip), whereas a magazine is a mchine that feeds bullets via spring power into the gun.
Hello /k/ my cat injured a mouse today and I had to shoot it. Then I realized how bad my air gun is. Since I live in a suburb area I can't shoot guns around with out make the neighbors pissy. When you think about it is an assault weapons ban really that bad? No more ak's or Ar's sure....but many other rifles will still be available that shoot the same fucking round. Even if another AWB goes through, sure it will piss me off but it wont be the end of the world. If anything it will probably make the pro gun rights side even stronger. What are your thoughts?
