Personally, I find all that "western" reloading just awkward. At least with my AK, I tend to do it the basic, you could say "Russian" way: the supportive hand stays on the forestock, the firing hand removes the old mag, takes and inserts new one, and charges the gun.
The rifle can remain pointed towards the target throughout the whole procedure, it's easier to keep up like that, and there's less chance of tumbling with the mags. Even charging the gun's far easier with my right...
