Why is skin so complicated? All of these colors, ochre, red, orange. Like I'm not a beginner artist but it's the hardest thing for me. Worst of all is you never know which to pick when painting skintone from imagination (when the reference is grayscale and such - I don't want all of my work to be just a copy and I don't want it to look like plastic anime figures either). How do you go on about painting something as complicated from a color point of view as skintone? I'm stuck, honestly. Is there a step-by-step method that works well?

just think of it as a low saturated red orange cube as the base.

afterwards just add extra FX like hue variation because skin.

you can add more FX like sub surface scatter.
>>
What fucks me up is the amount of grey and green that appears in light skintones.
>>
>>2413768
it's not. Skin is partly transparent so the colors of the blood and bone beneath show. Then it's just a matter of the light sources in the area shining their colors on it like with everything else.

Good thin ballpoints to sketch?

I'm currently using Uni Jetstream, but it keeps leaving ink blotches every where. I bought three of them just in case and every one of them is the same. I'm confused

Is it because of the atmosphere, I live pretty high up on my apartment, so is it fucking with my Jetstream?

>>
it blots because of the heat from your hand.
>>
>>2413542
Hmmm, that might be true

But the casing is pretty far from the actuall ink, does it really affect it?

If so what are some solutions?
>>
>>2413543
I just drop using ballpoint, I didn't bother searching for solutions.

you can confirm it by using a pen that's lying around for a while, if it does not blot at the start then blots after you been using for a while then it's your hand giving heat that's causing the ink to blot.

Do you guy know any good exercises, or source of exercises, for a beginner to build muscle memory, like drawing circles and lines?

Thanks for the help!
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Last time I asked this question I got told to just draw more.

Since that never helped me I just gave up on any kind of art that doesn't let me refine my lines in the finishing stage.
>>
>>2412990
try looking up some of the exercises from scott robertson. he has some pretty solid line work.
>>
Just grab a piece of paper and do it.

At least once a day and whenever I start drawing, I always fill up a page or two with just circles and lines. I'll also usually try to do some rough shading to turn the circles into spheres and I'll try to draw additional lines parallel to the first lines. I wouldn't spend more than five to ten minutes on it, but I personally find that it helps warm up my arm and improve the crispness of my marks. Just make sure you're drawing things at a variety of sizes and that you get your arm, wrist, and fingers involved, otherwise it'll be a waste of time.

Imo everything starts to look better the more you draw.

It's Anime. They Do look all alike.

I would draw each character large and extra detailed,so you can have these designs in mind when you draw them for your works smaller and simplified, having their idiosyncrasies in mind.

I'm having some trouble with a book that teaches perspective. When drawing in 2 point perspective, how do I draw a square when it's not lined up 45deg from each vanishing point? I can draw a rectangle that's PROBABLY a square, but I can only eyeball it

>>
>>2411258
There's a few different ways. You'll need your station point established first. Place your two vanishing points so that if you connect the two through the station point, you get a right angle (adds up to 90 degrees on a protractor).

Lets say you chose one vanishing point that's 35 degrees to the left of your center vision line (measured from the station point). This means your other vanishing point must be 55 degrees to the right.

The halfway point between these two vanishing points measured with a protractor would be 45 degrees (in this case 10 degrees to the right of the center vision line). Draw a line from the station point to the horizon using that angle - where it hits the horizon is your diagonal vanishing point. That connects a diagonal of the square like you're used to seeing.
>>
>>2411268
Okay, that makes sense. I'll probably need a protractor eh?

Does my Station Point need to line up with the closest corner of the box?
By that I mean, could the CVP in the image be moved a couple inches left or right of where it currently is?

No, wait. You described drawing a box that ISN'T in perspective. 90deg will draw a square that's not in perspective.

How would I go from top image to bottom image? Pic related.

This may be a nitpick of mine but what's with a decent amount of artists not drawing good feet? If I'm looking at art or an animation and it all looks great then I see the feet or lesser extent hands and they looks all wrong and rushed it brings the art down a peg. Feet aren't that hard to draw at all. Artists practice studies on different parts of the body but feet for some reason. Why?

Buy medium intuos pro. Spend the rest on drugs.
You might need large intuos though if you have over 27inch monitor. But you'll have less money for drugs.
