Let me educate you about French Cuisine.
Now I have pissed you off on the first sentence, let's keep reading if you wanna learn something. My source is mainly "La Table des Français" from Florent Quellier (my teacher) who's one of the historian who made French cuisine recognized by the UNESCO.

French Cuisine was born around the 16-17th century. Not from the peasants, like in many other countries, but odly directly from the highest nobility. The reason why is simply England and Netherland.
During the late Middle-Age, most noble courts were using large amount of spices. Indian trades was starting to intensify and the first thing nobles wanted was the prestigious spices. You wouldn't be able to eat a single meal in late Middle-Age without breathing fire.
But the trade was mostly controled by England and Netherland, selling to France as an outrageously increasing price. French nobles got fed up and took matters in hand. They decide to remove most spices from recipes and realised... it tasted bland as fuck.
So they actually took the time (they're nobles, they have time) to research how to improve the taste without spices. They rediscovered herbs, they created butter cooking, they invented many sauces and even made up several cooking tools. More importantly, they wrote books. Many cooking books, in a time where there was almost none in Europe.
French Cuisine had obvious troubles reaching the rest of Europe while spices was still the Dogme but in France it became an acceptable occupation for the nobility, even an Art for some. King Louis XV was actually known to cook some of his food himself.
When France influence became critical around late 16th-17th century, european courts finally started to copy French Cuisine (except Bongs because they hate French) and after the Revolution, cooks in noble house lost their jobs and went away, opening restaurants all over France and Europe. That's how it became the standard.

I got one of these pots to replace my old steel one that had warped a little and didn't sit flat anymore, but apparently you aren't supposed to use metal utensils on them. this is a problem because I usually eat my food right out of the pot so I don't have to wash more dishes.
aside from using wooden chopsticks is there anything else I can do? I have a piece of walnut that I could try to carve a spork out of, but I don't know how effective it would be.

i like french presses because you can use slightly cooler water than you would in a pourover and just use more beans and let it steep longer for better flavor. it takes a minute to figure out and you have to readjust for each new coffee you get too. also if it is very important for you not to have sludgy coffee let the coffee settle in another container after brewing so the particles settle to the bottom, then pour.

Tonight I'll be cooking pork chops, although I have no fucking idea what I can do with them to make them god-tier. Any hints or tips would be great. I'll be doing a potato gratin and string beans as a side dish, and I have a pretty stacked spice rack, so throw some suggestions my way.

Find a staple grain and then work around it. My staple grains are wheat, buckwheat and oatmeal. I make my own sourdough bread daily and eat oatmeal or buckwheat daily. Then around that I buy food according to health of stick-to-ribsness. That's usually more bread and veggies and nutritional supplements that I've built a stock of.

I don't think American cheese, aka government cheese, aka "cheese product that isn't actually cheese" is all that great. It's not on my top 20 food items list or anything.
That being said, I do think that it has a purpose. That purpose is, specifically, in certain types of sandwich and--arguably more importantly--on burgers. Maybe I've just never had the right "real" cheese on burgers, but cheddar is too dry and turn into an oily nightmare when melty and provolone is bland as fuck...
