>>81773048I actually liked act 7. I thought it was a satisfying resolution to the biggest threads, i.e. the creation of the universe, the defeat of LE, etc., and all in a very MSPA way. I think the biggest problem is that act 6 was such a god damn clusterfuck in terms of its handling of characters and plot threads. I think if it had been properly built up to, Act 7, completely unchanged, could have been a great ending. Hussie said he'd thought of the general idea of the ending a long time ago, and it showed, the feel of it definitely hearkened back to simpler homestuck, and I think its act 6's fault for turning it into a garbled mess that couldn't be saved. That said the ending didn't work at all for what the story became.

So let me get this straight.
At some point in Caliborn's timeline, presumably after the last time we saw him in Act 7 since he'd just gotten the Juju chest, he was confronted by the Alpha and Beta kids. This set of kids were NOT the alpha timeline ones, because we know the alpha timeline kids never did that. So it was another group, but their John still had the retcon powers, because that's how they got there. Caliborn sealed the souls of the first four kids in the Juju and then chucked it off into the Furthest Ring. The other four kids continued to battle him, and as far as we know Jake did the hopesplosion thing and that was it, we don't know anything else.
Cut to now, when Vriska has the chest, and opened it. It unleashed the Juju with the four beta timeline kids' souls trapped inside, and for whatever reason this then produced a big laser that... did we don't actually know what. Because we never saw it.

So like act 7 starts with whats clearly Cali opening the book and telling the story of collide, she glosses over the fights we saw there and then we go to the lily pad and see the birth of the new universe, at this point everyone resolves to go fight english at his weakest, as a kid. They poof in with John's pwoers, the Beta Kids get stuck, while the masterpiece thing plays out. John’s retcon powers let everything ‘just werk’ so that the timeline isn’t completely fucked. We forward to vris opening the juju box against LE and the Beta kids come roaring out and we get the cliff notes of their encounter. LE gets stuck in the juju at the end, literally becomes homestuck. Everyone left alive all return to the pad and they go through the door. Then we get the quick epilogue of what everyone’s doing on their new fixed world and the last few exchanges, dave coming to to the senpai, rose & dirk, Karkat helping lead can town with the mayor.
The flash ends with caliope closing the book and someone asking her to read it again, she does so and we get the loop to page 1.

They are mystery heroes, stepped out of a shadow, a timeline that doesn't exist. Their actions allowed Lord English to be, but also apparently laid the foundations for Lord English to cease, supposedly, since it was off camera and all that.

Remember Caliborn's extremely shitty stint on controlling the site?
It outlines it there when the kids use John's ghost bullshit powers to teleport back to Caliborn and try to fight him before he turns into Lord English.
Instead, he whips out his Juju and it sucks in the four main kids, although it is now a weapon that can be used against him, and so he banishes it to the void, and guess where Vriska found what.
Following the kids being sucked into the juju and banished, some shit goes down between the Side B kids and Caliborn + Arquiusprite get banished into the Lil Cal doll, then sent to the void thanks to Roxy.
Now that Vriska has opened the juju, it's time for the main four to come out and lay the smackdown on Lord English now that his power's been reduced thanks to the Green Sun no longer being an issue. In particular, Dave's shitty welsh sword is the most potent weapon against Lord English's invulnerability/immortality now that his clock is no longer active, seeing as it was technically made with the cue ball from Caliborn's clock weight and possesses knowledge within it - particularly, knowledge of Caliborn's karma and death judgment.

The picture of what I wanted it to be was like... Descend or Cascade 2, mostly drawn by Hussie, then an Alterniabound-style walkaround to wrap up all the relationships and to set up the impending character, THEN the last 5 seconds of the flash we got, and MAYBE a slideshow epilogue showing them in Can Town doing fun shit they actually do instead of fucking soccer and picnics. You know, shit similar to shit Hussie made in the past that was interesting and satisfying and he could definitely do again but with current comic events?
And no, we didn't know how he'd die, and the comic didn't SHOW how he died, it gently implied it at best and people are still picking up the pieces and details after the fact, and we have no idea when the events of Caliborn's Ultimate Masterpiece are because it sure didn't seem like this timeline, and IF IT WAS then we have no idea what happened to any of the kids afterward. I get everything at this point but where the fucking masterpiece fits into the timeline.
Was it an inexplicable alternate timeline that was never hinted at? Do the kids jump forward to dead Earth when they've lived their lived to finally deal with Caliborn, since the trolls didn't come with them and they don't have immortality? Did Hussie outright forget about it?
That scene is the most important plot point in Act 6, telling us how LE was born and what the macguffin is, and it doesn't fit in anywhere.

I guess it happens some time after they enter their universe. All the human players are immortal, after all. I suppose they may stop aging after a certain point too. Caliborn said they came after him after they had powered up even more with loads of "boons", so they may continue to get stronger in their new universe before finally deciding to travel to their Earth's "future" to confront Caliborn.
The only loose end here is that the B2 Kids are stuck at Caliborn's planet unless the B1 Kids were unleashed by Vriska, since only John can get them out of Caliborn's session since it's otherwise impossible for them to navigate out of the Incipisphere without someone to predict their trajectory/shoot them out into the void on a meteor in the first place.

Alright, I just re-watched Act 7, and there are a few things that are easy to miss that, once you catch them, make it a lot more satisfying.
LE's powers definitely DID go away when the Green Sun was destroyed- the shot after the Black Hole Calliope creates finishes destroying it and turns into what I'm going to call the Corner Pocket it cuts to LE's green aura flickering out, and his eyes stopping their flickering and rotating into 8-balls.
And when breach finally cracks, it's the Corner Pocket showing through. What happens to the guy with pool balls for eyes is a foregone conclusion. Sure, motherfucker won't die, but without space powers he's not going to be escaping that either.
They spent the last flash taking out all the other threats to the session and incarnations of the various ways LE had influenced their session- pocketing all the other balls, so to speak.
It also implies that everyone else in the dream bubbles are also Fucking Dead, but they always were anyway so who cares about them. Aradia seems pleased about it, anyway.
The Juju turning into the literal doorway that leads to a new universe implies it's either an entrance or an exit- my assumption is that Worst Troll used it to escape total annihilation, but admittedly it's the only part I'm still unsatisfied about. That and where the FUCK is Terezi.
