Okay, you had the trolls, who (much like ponies and Sonic characters) have super simple designs that makes them easy OC bait. Most of those characters were unique, broadening the cast into a literal rainbow of personalities (be they rich joke fodder or actually sympathetic). There was also the shipping, which was really full-on convoluted and mocking-but-earnest, and dropped the "mocking" part as time went on.
So it's a mix of genuine quality and runaway fan-autism, much like any breakout fandom success.

I liked the earlier acts because the characters were legitimately charming (now they've become stereotypes of Hussie's own stereotypes, Karkat was extremely boring lately, he had 0 charm and kinda just sat off to the side and did nothing but not even in the charming sat off to the side and did nothing he had throughout act 5.)
Some people joined for the shipping, that was cool I guess. The art was GORGEOUS in the beginning. The ghost artists couldn't even compete late-comic. Especially Rose's world and Dave's.
It was interesting, there was so much going on, so much to speculate on but after all the speculation's done and finished, we're left with nothing new to discuss later except why and what because it's a confusing mess but not an interesting one, a pretty damn annoying one that feels left without any real conclusion.

I have been throwing myself against the door of Denial for the past few hours.
The moment it snapped, I tumbled in, tripped over the chair of Depression and fell face first onto the ugly, but comfy carpet of Acceptance.
Homestuck was a good, flawed comic by a good, flawed man.
It did a lot of things right and a lot of things wrong.
In the end it was a pretty decent, pretty wild ride.
And sharing this ride with all of you is what made it so great.

Undoubtedly. Even if it doesn't have a direct spiritual successor, any creative type who enjoyed it is gonna go on to show its influence in whatever they do. Especially some of the ones who got into it at 13, 14 and got most of their artistic development from fanart/fanfic/RP/what have you. Hell, you can already see it in things. Steven Universe has a TON of HS references. I'm going to art school in the fall for animation, and all of Hussie's stuff has had a profound impact on me artistically.

And that's not to mention that it's weird for the Green Sun to even have a timeline that is linked to English.
