Hi /x/.
I'm 30 years old and I live in a new building (it's cca 10 years old). I've been living here for about two years now. My apartment is cozy.
For the last three months I've been hearing and I've been followed by small inconsequential sounds. The walls will "crack" randomly, as if the paint is drying. From time to time I'll hear bumps, creaking and so on coming from my near vicinity (such as the living room or bathroom) while I'm in my bedroom. The best way to describe these sounds would be as if you're on your PC and your mom or whatever was in the next room, doing nothing in particular but creating small sounds while she drinks her tea or goes about her business. However this shouldn't in any way be taken as creepy. I feel no presence as such, no fear, discomfort, or any things of that kind. At first I thought that I just suddenly became aware of these sounds, but me being myself this would be quite atypical. Likewise, the building itself isn't the cause of this. The randomness of these sounds will persist whenever I'm alone and regardless of the place I'm at.
Nothing was ever found disturbed or out of place. Even the tiniest objects are exactly where I leave them, and I repeat that I am not disturbed by any of this, or feel anything negative in relation to it.
But I will now share a bit of "spookyness." I DO feel that I'm being watched/followed, but the feeling is not a feeling of danger or emnity. It's like everything is watching me, for lack of better term. It sounds terrifying and paranoid, yes, but again I repeat - I don't feel like I'm being persecuted or hunted or whatever. Just observed by a non-entity, something which is a natural force and exists all around me like air. That's the only way I can describe it.
So, any ideas on what all of this means or may mean?

About 10 years - which is to say brand new. I lived for 16 years in commieblock before that, and a few years in a 15th century relic. In other words I'm familiar with the typical sources of household noises. These aren't that.

You know that feeling we have sometimes, when you are aware of the "Real" where we exist and just think "wtf is all that?". I mean, all of this, this is some weird shit. We try to hide this feeling by living our daily lives as if everything was safe and well known, but when you realize no one really knows what we are doing here or even what we are, there is something spoopy about that. At this moment, words are not enough to describe anything, feelings don't even matter anymore, time and space are secondary things, there's only a huge "mistery of light" involving your existence that makes everything wonderful and full of meaning, but you still don't understand anything and are afraid of the simplest/most common things like your own hands.
I know this may sound kinda childish or primitive, but I still think this realization is the most important thing in life.

I know what you mean. I kinda started coming here because of my partner(not that anyone here really helped with anything, this board is abysmal). There was always something weird about him but i think it was when i saw his eyes glow one night that i finally freaked the fuck out internally. apparently it's this thing called tapetum lucidum humans aren't supposed to have. then i realised it's fucking odd he eats three blue rare steaks for lunch(i mean come on, who the fuck eats blue rare steak. even pretentious asshols eat it rare) without geting fat and that he's just...a creepy asshole generally. his fitness tests are consistently at the top of the department and i've never seen him so much as jog. and he always knows when people are lying, it's the kind of thing you could believe in a tv show but not in real life..

People put very little value into feelings. Feelings are useless in a job market. However, feelings are what allow you to feel that awareness of "reality." People who subdue their feelings only notice "reality" sometimes, whereas those who choose to listen to their emotions experience "reality" in a much fuller way.

Some freaky shit happened. Here is some background. I am a student at VCU studying biology. I'm currently taking an ornithology class about birds and I have to take pictures of them every week and post it on a website. I'm currently in Northern VA for spring break. Sorry if my story is long, but lets begin. (This JUST happened and IS 100% true.)
So, I get to Roundtree park in Fairfax County today around 3:30pm, Sunday, March 13, 2016 To take pictures of birds. I see that the trail is closed off due to a broken bridge that goes over a stream and go on a newly made detour, so I decided to say fuck it and go around the closure, and continue on the main trail. A little walk down the trail and I find stepping stones. They are about 10 across and are there for when it floods. I thought to myself kinda cool and stepped across them. I then decide to venture off and follow the stream. The water is super high since it is raining. Since streams lead to bigger bodies of water I followed it hoping to find some stupid ass ducks or some shit type of bird. After about a 25-minute follow, this stream led to a massive reservoir, I'm guessing it was around 5 feet deep. You could definitely swim in it on a hot day and it has a beach area to chill on. I am now beginning to feel a really fucking eerie feeling. Like something is watching me. I look to my right, see nothing then, I look up to my left and I see a birdhouse. This isn’t a small shitty small birdhouse, but a real experimental birdhouse placed there by someone doing scientific research. I move closer to the birdhouse slowly and see that it obviously been pried open on the bottom. These birdhouses are normally super fucking sturdy and it takes fucking strength to open the bottom. I am guessing a bear or something strong as fuck tried to open that shit, cause you can see claw marks on it. This doesn't really scare me.

As I look straight after examining the birdhouse I see a staircase. (A metal fucking staircase in the middle of the woods with nothing around it.) I’m guessing it was used as a Hunting stand or some shit, but its missing the top of part of the staircase. I know my creepy pastas, and fuck that shit I did NOT go close to it, I continued to go left parallel to the reservoir and keeping my distance from the staircase. As I continue parallel to the left down the stream, and past the staircase, I spot a couple ducks, so I whip out my I-phone and take pictures of them. At least point a REALLY strong breeze flows through the forest and I see a womanly figure about 40 yards ahead of me, walking ungodly fast through the brush. It was like her feet were walking, but she was gliding across the ground. I can’t see her face. She was wearing a black trench jacket and walking as fast as some people sprint. At this point I’m a little scared, but more drawn back at the fact that there is another person a mile or a mile and a half in the forest. Since I don’t want any problems I stayed quiet, crouched, and tried to use my phone. BUT NOPE shit is dead. I fully charged it BEFORE I went out today and am dumbfounded. As the persons figure starts to slowly fade away, I try again to turn on my phone, and it turns on, with 82% battery. I just don’t understand this. I never had battery problems before but TODAY my phone is being a bitch. I continue to go left parallel to the stream find a path and a hill about 200 feet tall. I decide to snap a picture of it. It looked beautifully creepy.

The hill casted a shadow even there was no sun out today. I look at the picture under the gallery then I look at my I-phones battery and it says 78%. I start to follow the trail up the hill. As I'm walking up the hill, the forest is gets darker, every step I am taking it seems that less and less light is coming through the clouds. The sounds of the raindrops hitting the leaves are slowly fading. I can breathe, but I cannot hear my own breathes being taken in, and the sound of my heartbeat is getting louder and louder.
I reach the top of the hill, and my heartbeat is now the only thing I can hear. All the sounds of the forest are drowned, and it seems like its 8:30pm at night. I am deaf. I try clapping, and no sound is made. As soon as I realize that I am deaf I know my adrenaline kicks in and I'm in shock at this point. I pull my phone to try to play music to see if I'm deaf and my phone is dead again. I tried to turn it on three fucking times and the piece of shit does not turn on. I put it back in my pocket, I look forward and I see three shed like houses in a horizontal linear formation about 20 yards ahead of me on this hill, and I smell a rotten fowl smell. It smelt of dogs shit, rotten chicken, with a very putrid sour aroma. The only senses I have at this time are my smell and my sight. I look at the middle shed, and the woman walks from behind it. Her hood is covering her eyes and noes, and all I see is a slight grin with her teeth showing. At this point bros, I am about to shit my pants and I quickly run down the trail back to the bottom of this hill. As I am running, the forest gets brighter, the sounds of raindrops hitting leaves are back, I can hear my own breathes and I can hear birds. I look back at the hill to see if this bitch is following me but she is nowhere to be seen.

I continue to sprint through the brush tripping and falling for about 10 minutes following the stream back, I start laughing because every 8th or 9th step I’m falling so I felt safe so walked the rest of it back to closure of the trail. Can someone please explain to me what the fuck happened? I even turned my phone on back on when I got into my car. It was at 68% but no photo of the hill. My phone has been working fine this afternoon. I don’t know what I saw. I don’t know if It was a homeless person or an apparition but I’m spooked the fuck out. I’ll put the pictures I have up now.

I have Paranoid Schizophrenia, and I have for most of my life as a young adult. Paranoid Schizophrenia is the most famous form of the disease, so i'm sorry if any of my experiences sound repetitive but--
Every day is a real struggle in the morning and at night in specific, as it is with any mental illness. I have to lock my doors and check them 4 times every night or I won't be able to sleep. I can often see faces of things that want to kill me, and hear nails scratching at my door to get in when I lay my head down. I don't hear many voices, but when I do, it's very garbled? Rarely do they make much sense, so I try my best to ignore it.
I see many figures, even when i'm having a good day, pic kind of related? Typically they're long, lanky beings who have to bend down to even fit within my house. They don't have faces and never move, but I know that they're watching me no matter where I am, so long as the lights are off. My mother has started smudging the house again regularly, and that's actually turning out to help.
I'm medicated so I can function within society pretty easily. I'm in line to become a writer, or if I do what my parents want, a linguist. I have friends and a life and I do everything non-mentally ill people can, but it kind of changes when my medication wears off at night, as I mentioned.

Beads Found in Nordic Graves Traced to Egypt
Stunning glass beads found in Danish Bronze Age burials dating to 3400 years ago turn out to have come from ancient Egypt, from the workshop that made the beads buried with the famous King Tutankhamun.
Twenty-three glass beads found in Danish Bronze Age burials by the team of Danish and French archaeologists were blue, a rare color in ancient times. Altogether, 271 glass beads have been found at 51 burials sites in Denmark, the majority of which originated from Nippur, about 50 km southeast of modern Baghdad.
The 23 blue glass beads were analyzed using plasma-spectrometry, a technique that enables comparison of trace elements in the beads without destroying them. The analysis showed that the blue beads turned out to have originated from the same glass workshop in Amarna that adorned King Tutankhamun at his funeral in 1323 BCE. King Tut´s golden deathmask contains stripes of blue glass in the headdress, as well as in the inlay of his false beard.
The Egyptian and Mesopotamian glass beads found in the graves in Denmark indicates that trade was established already 3000 years ago, and conversely, Nordic amber has been found as far south as Mycenae, Greece and Syria.
“Trade systems in the Eastern Mediterranean seem to have collapsed around 1200 BC, which must have been due to troubled times, perhaps war and strife, and the emergence of the Sea Peoples. This collapse can also be observed in the Nordic burials. Fewer glass beads seem to have reached the north,” said Kaul Flemming, Curator of Prehistory at the National Museum of Denmark. “However an interesting phenomena occurred at the same time in Italy. In the Po Valley, new workshops arose, where they turned glass into glass beads. There are also large workshops where they processed Nordic amber from natural lumps into finished gems.”

Scientists Discover Plastic-Eating Bacteria
In a report published in the journal Science, a team of Japanese researchers described a species of bacteria that can break the molecular bonds of one of the world’s most-used plastics - polyethylene terephthalate, also known as PET or polyester. Further tests found the bacteria almost completely degraded low-quality plastic within six weeks.
Initial genetic examination revealed the bacteria may have evolved enzymes specifically capable of breaking down PET in response to the accumulation of the plastic in the environment in the past 70 years. Such rapid evolution was possible, said Enzo Palombo, a professor of microbiology at Swinburne University, given that microbes have an extraordinary ability to adapt to their surroundings.
The bacteria took longer to eat away highly crystallised PET, which is used in plastic bottles. That means the enzymes and processes would need refinement before they could be useful for industrial recycling or pollution clean-up.
PET makes up almost one-sixth of the world’s annual plastic production of 311 million tons. Despite PET being one of the more commonly recycled plastics, the World Economic Forum reports that only just over half is ever collected for recycling and far less actually ends up being reused.
The potential applications of the discovery remain unclear. The most obvious use would be as a biological agent in nature, said Palombo. Bacteria could be sprayed on the huge floating trash heaps building up in the oceans. This method is most notably employed to combat oil spills.
This particular bacteria would not be useful for this process as it only consumes PET, which is too dense to float on water. But the discovery could open the door to the discovery or manufacture of biological agents able to break down other plastics.

Molecular Experiment Reverses Evolution in Birds
Anyone who has eaten chicken can account for the presence of a long bone in the drumstick. This is the fibula, one of the two long bones of the lower leg. In dinosaurs, this bone is tube-shaped and reaches all the way down to the ankle. However, in the evolution from dinosaurs to birds, it lost its lower end, and no longer connects to the ankle. Scientists noted long ago that bird embryos first develop a tubular, dinosaur-like fibula; afterward, it becomes shorter and acquires its adult, splinter-like shape.
Scientists from the Universidad de Chile, headed by Joâo Botelho under the advisory of Alexander Vargas, genetically manipulated chickens so that they would grow up with legs like dinosaurs. Suppressing one of the genes responsible for the differences between raptors and chickens resulted in chickens that develop a full-length, tubular fibula connected at the ankle, matching the lower leg anatomy of a raptor.
The results of the entire study have been published this week in the renowned academic journal Evolution. This is the second time Botelho has achieved an experimental reversal to a dinosaur-like trait in birds. Previously, he had managed to undo the evolution of the perching toe of birds to produce a non-twisted, non-opposed toe, as in dinosaurs. Another lab at Yale obtained a dinosaur-like snout by altering gene expression in embryonic chicken.
"The experiments are focused on single traits, to test specific hypotheses," Said Vargas. "Not only do we know a great deal about bird development, but also about the dinosaur-bird transition, which is well-documented by the fossil record. This leads naturally to hypotheses on the evolution of development, that can be explored in the lab.
