A month ago my computer auto-updated to Windows 10, and after weeks of instability and crashes I downgraded back to 8.1. While I was in 10 land however, I enjoyed the completely transparent taskbar through use of Classic Shell. On downgrading, much to my chagrin, I found that option lacking in Windows 8.1 classic shell. Anyone know of any non-crack way to make the taskbar completely transparent in Windows 8.1?
I don't use 10. I use 8.1 but I don't even use the classic shell for it. Why would you want to? If I couldn't make the shell look like 7 and other classic versions, I was simply going to downgrade back to 7.

That said... there is probably a program where you can get close to reverting back to the 8.1 shell. Google is how I found my solution to what I wanted.

G1 is the contact, it's between the wireless card, and processors. Was found in the service manual of another version, still hasn't cleared the PW.

i removed the heatsink from the cpu for the first time and found crap on it. i realized this is the thermal paste I've heard about. should i remove the old and if so how? any recommendations on paste? how much should you apply?
Get some toilet paper and Isopropyl Alcohol/Methylated Spirits (or any alcohol based cleaning fluid really). Wet some paper with it, clean the paste off, keep doing that till its gone. Rub it with a cloth that wont leave fibers behind (the edge of your shirt is usually ok) to remove any alcohol and remnants of toilet paper.
Buy some paste, I use Artic Cooling MX-4 but it kind of doesn't matter which one* unless you care about 2 degree differences. Put a blob of it in the centre about the size of a pea, put whatever heatsink you had back on. The pressure of the heatsink...

Of course you need to remove old paste before putting another cooler on your CPU. Remove your CPU from the socket and clean it with paper towel and ethanol. Then put it back to the socket and apply just as much as rice grain volume (maybe a little bit more but the point is it should end up as a thin layer on your CPU). Use something like old unneeded credit card to spread it evenly.

can i can wash the heatsink under running water, then let it dry for about a day? i ran out of canned air trying to clean out the case.. lots of dustbunnies

I just installed a Linux distro in a new partition I made in the unallocated space in my HDD.
I have two separate partitions for Windows XP and Windows 7.
Before installing Linux, XP could see and work with the Win7 partition.
After installing Linux, that is no longer the case. XP doesn't see the Linux partition either.
The partitions do show up in the disk manager. The Windows 7 one is a primary partition, and its filesystem is NTFS. The Linux partition is logical, and its filesystem is ext4, I think.
My question is: How can I make my Windows XP work...

- assign drive letters to the partitions you're not seeing
In general, Linux is shit at NTFS, and Windows is shomit at Ext[2-4]. If you write to an NTFS partition using Linux, Windows will want to scandisk it next time it boots. Windows can only access Ext using third-party tools.
It sounds like you don't even know why you want Linux, which is why you're dual-booting. Dual-booting is stupid. Get a raspberry pi or something if you want to play...

Right click my computer - disk management. Check to see if Windows 7 partition has a letter from within windows xp

The situation has developed: Windows 7 is now unable to successfully boot, repair itself, or be repaired with an installation disk. It is still able to lead Windows XP into booting. I imagine that XP now depends on Win 7, so I can't just delete...
