I come from a vidya background, which means I have a penchant for classical music and Japanese Progressive Rock (A la Uematsu or Motoi Sakuraba) so, do anime and VN have soundtracks with the same prog inspirations, or similar? Or just good music?

Yeah, I don't know about Japanese Prog Rock, but Evangelion has quite a bit of classical music in it while also having a fantastic soundtrack along with them.
So, Evangelion for your classical music.
Haruhi uses Eric Satie's Gymnopédies, 1, but what anime doesn't at this point.

Rather the limit of 1/x as x goes to infinity (a simpler example of a limit) is zero.

I'm looking for any kind of good, atmospheric anime with a thematic focus which don't really have any humor. Examples would be Angel's Egg, Ghost in the Shell, Serial Experiments Lain or Texhnolyze. Examples of shows that wouldn't fit only becausd of the humor part would be Evangelion or Utena.

Video one is an parody infomercial about a cleaning product of some sort, that's actually a handgun, part of the refrain is 'bang bang bang.' The host of this music video is a white guy with brown hair and a British accent.
Video two is some kind of infomercial song about a green goop thing. They put it in everything to energy drinks to window cleaner to shampoo, etc. I'd like to say that the product is some play on the word 'energy'...
