I need a suggestion for what 3DS game I should buy for my girlfriend next. She's currently finishing up Pokemon X and already owns Animal Crossing.
She is 24 years old and is finishing up her Masters in Computer Science this year.
I have no idea what kind of games she likes because prior to the 3DS I bought her she only owned a hundred different copies of Let's Dance. She did play the original Pokemon games and enjoyed them as a kid.

Are disks just about obsolete? I haven't used a disk drive in almost a decade, and blu-rays were already too small back when Skyrim came out.

hell no. still by far the cheapest way to store data. and not everybody has internet connections that can download 30+ GB games in a few hours.
Blu rays are fine.
Depends on what they're used for.
For games? Yes. Discs have absolutely no purpose there. For archival of small files? Discs are way more practical than anything else.

What are some prettyand funspace games /v/?
Sword of the Stars 1 is fun and held up well. Unfortunately 2 is shit. A real shame too because it had so much potential. I did manage to get Angryjoe to apologize to me in M&B over his initial review of it though.
Pretty? Probably want something like Sins or Endless Space. I'd recommend Distant Worlds though especially if you enjoy modding. Pretty much the whole game is moddable.

I felt the Fumeknight was more fun.
Alonne is still pretty cool, more or less Artorias 2.0, sadly he doesn't have enough health or power to handle multiple people unlike Artorias. More the reason to fight him one on one I suppose.
By far one of my favorite fights in DS2.
I loved the little details for him. Like if you beat him without healing or taking damage he commits seppuku when he reaches 0 HP.
