I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as MOTHER4, is in fact, Fanfic/MOTHER4, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, Fanfic plus MOTHER4. MOTHER4 is not a real sequel unto itself, but rather another free Fanfic component of the fully functioning Fan made game made possible by the original true renowed classic series called MOTHER, art style and gameplay components comprising a full borrowed fan game defined by, well it's technically a fan game.
Many gamers run a unofficial project from the Fanfic community every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the project of this Fanfic which is widely used today is often called MOTHER4, and many of its fans are not aware that it is basically a Fanfic game, developed by the Fanfic devs. There really is a MOTHER4, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the fan-made games they use.
MOTHER4 is the fan game: the fans in the community that allocates the original resources to the other Fanfics that you run. The Fanfic is an essential part of a Fanfic community, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete original series. MOTHER4 is normally used in combination with the Fanfic project: the whole project is basically a Fanfic with Mother4 added, or Fanfic/Mother4. All the so-called “MOTHER4” distributions are really distributions of Fanfic/MOTHER4.

ME1 was so much fun even though the planets were too often copy-pasta and the big plot hole. It had so much potential and they wasted it. Personally, I think the series should have gone like this:

>ME2 - Shepard doesn't die, keep all the characters. Spend game uniting galaxy and putting everyone in a war footing. Need multiple playthroughs to get every species on your side.

I caved and bought it used for $45 a couple weeks ago. The display case looked like shit, so I was really concerned, but they took that and handed me a like new copy. It'll probably be a Club Nintendo platinum reward, but it's not like that will make the physical copy drop in value.
Keep searching, it's hard to find, but not impossible.

What's the best way into the industry? I'm 18 and graduate high school in a few months. I got accepted into college, but is spending 4 years getting a degree really necessary? But I think it'll be hard to get an internship or job at a dev with literally no experience.

So is SMT4 good or what ? I saw a couple of gameplays and shit was really bad graphically
good 3ds game mediocre smt game
way too much RNG leads to (literal) TRIGGER WARING artificial difficulty. smirks and partners who attack the enimies resistances as well as back attacks and shit make the game a chore. it's usually either too hard or too easy as well and never perfect. 2d battles are dogshit as well.
over all world/level design, gameplay, overworld graphics music and story are good though. worth picking up. and lot's of content.

The 3ds holds it back in everyway possible. The art design is by far the worst on the whole series and extremely inconsistent due to clashing with old designs and even a completely what the fuck tier omoikane. The difficulty is laughable a few hours in. The demon voice acting is completely fucking ATROCIOUS and also inconsistent. Demon conversation is literally a die roll with no after thought at all, it's not interesting in the slightest. While I don't really have a problem with it, the smirk mechanic does annoy a lot of people. By far the worst lucifer design ever. Demon fusing has been completely casualized because you can handpick every skill you want so the game gets completely broken while you're still level 20/30. The overworld map is complete fucking cancer and borderline unusable and the worst offender of all, you have to beat the game to be able to play on Hard.
I'd say it's only positive trait is that it has a god tier OST. That's fucking it.

The fact that it's so hard to find and that it's on the 3DS turned me off buying it entirely. If it were on the Vita or a proper console, I would have brought it.
