Legend of Mana. It's just such a beautifully made game all around. The environments, the music, the characters, the massive amount of equipment customization, the sidequest-focused progression that makes it feel like you're experiencing tons of adventures, everything. I just love it to death.
It makes me sad finding out later on that it's basically an oddball for the Mana series and seemingly was never repeated in any other entries.

Did you feel the script was awkwardly written as well? I don't mean, like, poor writing - I mean like they had the script in moon language and then someone though "HEY, I FIGURED OUT A WAY WE CAN SAVE SO MUCH MONEY" and pasted it into google translate for english.
