I know a lot of people hate The Witcher 3's combat. So be it, but graphics wise it caused a lot of fuss with the Sword Of Destiny trailer and the coming downgrade that followed. I think this is as close as we are gonna get to that trailer now.

If nothing more, why can't they use guns?
And before anyone cries "muh balance", it doesn't have to be a fucking death cannon or machine gun. If you want to make it balanced, make it a flintlock or some shit. Maybe make crossbows be usable by wizards with the downside that they have to be reloaded constantly and/or deal set damage that is independent of stats and instead reliant on a combination of the types of bolts/ammo and the type of crossbow/gun being used.
I mean, for fuck's sake, it seems like 90% of the time in games (and sometimes tabletops), wizards only use one (or both) hand(s) for their weapon and are unable to equip shields anyways, so you might as well have them using something worth using two hands for.
I want to be a gun-toting megawizard.
I'll magically carry a .50 cal stationary gun with conjured ammo in addition to my vast array of destructive spellcraft.

Because wizards use their hands to cast their spells, or use their weapons to help cast their spells. It's hard to do that when you're lugging around a giant two handed axe, and easier with shit you can "point" and gesticulate easy with - Like a knife, or a stick.
