jesus christ, I did the introduction sequence and figured out the controls in like 10 seconds
The dogfight with Pigma only took me 2 tries and the first was because I was mixing up U-turn and the loop

Yes.
The controls weren't even difficult. Honestly it's the stages that are overwhelming for new players but like most arcade games, it only takes a few runs to learn the patterns and figure everything out.
Even then, the game itself isn't that difficult.

Gold rings are literally the difference between life and death, I'd say they're worth the most. Or at the very least, your first gold ring is worth more than any of the others. And 50 gold rings open the secret worlds for the Chaos Emeralds, too. And 100 give you an extra life, same as coins and bananas. So yeah, gold rings are overall more useful.
