Ailright so I just watched this for the first time in years, it's an alright Star Wars movie. It's comfy as fuck and the acting and story weren't terrible, I really enjoyed the podrace scene and the final litsabre battle. I adore the Naboo and the Gungan cultures as well.
Lets get to the root of the problem, Jar-Jar Binks.
Not a bad character idea. He's actually pretty important and I can tell Lucas meant to flesh him out in the upcoming prequels. He should've been and deserved to be a more important character. What ruined it was the voice acting and the over the top slapstick animation, and, well everything. I'm fine with a slightly annoying and dumb character along the lines of Chewbacca, but he just ruined this character. Jar Jar should've been a mislead and clumsy edgelord, he was banished from the Gungans. They just made him so stupid and grating, I swear if Jar Jar had been better cast he'd have been a likeable and concrete character. And episode 1 would be really good.
tl'dr I'm drunk as fuck and watched this shitshow, Jar Jar had so much potential.

Visually Episode I is pretty great, lots of neat designs, good mix of practical effects and well done CGI, I mean watto still holds up nicely, and the sound design is great.
The story and the characters are a complete mess. Qui-Gon is the only character that seems to have any substance or purpose and even then he often acts contradictory because the story makes no sense. Maul was underused, anakin shouldn't have been so young, Obi-Wan shouldn't have been playing 2nd fiddle doing fuck-all the whole movie etc...
And yeah Jar Jar was a giant glaring mistake. He's just a walking spot of tonal dissonance and never positively adds to any scene he is in, instead he always contrasts it.

I remember reading Galaxy of Fear back in junior high and hating the shit out of it. They weren't even being subtle in their attempt to siphon money out of the Goosebumps franchise.
Also, Splinter of the Mind's Eye is pretty bad. It comes off like a low-budget Italian rip off of Star Wars (that was one of the first books approved by George Lucas), and there's a super uncomfortable part where Luke thinks about fucking Leia as she's sleeping.
I can imagine disney bringing back the vong, unfortunately.

I really like Hardware. It's director only managed to get one more movie, Dust Devil, made but it's also good. The problem is that the producers destroyed it with an awful cut. The Director's Cut is very interesting. It's cool to a see an African movie that's professionally made and deals with distinctly African themes without being about strong expatriot women returning home and being shocked by gender inequality.

It made no sense for him not to be tempted by the ring in the book. Faramir was a shitty Mary Sue character and Hackson's changes for Faramir were a huge improvement.

Just saw this beauty. 9.5/10 inb4 you pleb contrarians and patricians that only watch French and Dutch Lesbian "art" films (or "true cinema as you call it) start shitting on mine and everyone else's opinion because you faggots can't take a funny movie. Linklater's best movie, everything about it is so great, especially because it is one of those movies where nothing really happens. Every scene is great. Superbad definitely borrowed a lot from it. Would highly recommend.

I like this movie a lot but I feel that the whole arc of the football dude quitting the team was really lame and I just couldn't give two shits about his character at all. Every other aspect and character was fantastic though.
