It made a really bad first impression because the first two episodes were so janky. 3 and 4 were okay, but not good enough to salvage what Justin Lin had fucked up.
The latter half of the season was fucking great because that was when it switched from establishing the characters to actually playing with who they were. I would go so far as to call their arcs some of the best character writing I've seen on television.
But it was too late. And now you're gonna get memed by that faggot with the bird pepe.
Anyway, long story short, good not great, won't appeal to everyone. It's one of my favorite seasons of television ever, but it's certainly far from the best.

Best Anthology Show. Every year A channel would marathon Twilight Zone and I'd watch it with glee. Sterling's prose is amazing.

I think the idea of abusive and cruel asylums just isn't fresh on anyone's mind.That and the more purposeful attempt to reduce the stigma of mental illness in society.
There do seem to be a lot of low budget horror movies that take place in asylums or old psychiatric hospitals. But they almost all seem to be young ghost hunters trying to make a version of that SyFy tv show or some poorly thought out reality show where you spend the night in a haunted place but something goes horribly wrong. They're never that good.

Because we have a better understanding of mental illness now than when asylums actually existed. People know its a serious but treatable problem and not some scary thing to be locked away and ignored
