I always thought Mary Sue types sucked because scenes involving them usually suck. It was not a hard fast rule to avoid them at all costs, just a warning that making them interesting is sometimes difficult. He is literally the most flawed character in star wars. Also his force visions are no where near what Yoda saw and it was also said that he was piloting for a few years. That being said he is a terribly written character.
