Loosely based, and it wasn't over the top, it was subtle, and also carried tones of influence from the British Empire. Intended to convey a sense of strong order, hierarchy, and controlled ruthlessness, as well as being intimidating.
This new portrayal was just all-out Nazi imagery masturbation. And we're getting further and further away from the era of the Nazis anyway, which makes it seem all the more cheap and petty.
It's fantastic that Spider-Man is now being bought back into the Marvel series. But am I the only one who is a little disappointed we didn't get The Amazing Spider-Man 3 before it happened? I mean I know you couldn't delay Spider-Man's appearence in the MCU for any longer and this is probably best.
But it just feels incomplete. I'm left with a feeling that we've missed out on the ending of this story. Especially since I feel like I'm one of the only people to actually enjoy The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (my main complaint was how much of a beta Electro was).
And I thought Andrew Garfield did an awesome job as Peter.

So, /tv/, what are your predictions of where they'll go with the storyline in the following episodes?
Have any notable or unusually legit speculations or theories surfaced yet?
I don't care for theories floating around out there but here's some of my thoughts:
Kylo Ren has been humiliated and got his face mangled, so he'll be more psychotic and menacing in the sequels. It wouldn't do justice to Han Solo's sacrifice and the legacy of Darth Vader if Kylo Ren isn't redeemed. Kylo Ren will come back to the light but it will be a bittersweet redemption. He went too far in killing his father and his relationship with Leia will be analogous to mothers who visit their sons in prison.
My guess is that Kylo will be a villain up until the very end, and then help the good guys at the last second to save the galaxy from Snoke.
They cannot go bigger with the superweapons. Maybe they'll come up with some universe destroying bullshit weapon but that would be too much even for Star Wars. They'll likely raise the stakes by exploring the Dark Side and shifting the focus of the plot from Rebels vs. Empire to Jedi vs. Sith. Luke Skywalker was brought back into the story at the end of the Episode 7 and Snoke is a card that hasn't been played yet, so that conflict will be the focus of episodes 8 and 9.
Rey's backstory will be revealed in the sequels. We saw in the flashbacks that she has some connection to the massacre of Luke's students at the hands of Kylo Ren. Maybe she's the daughter of a pair of older students and she was moved to Jakku after the massacre. This theory is wonky because of the math involved (Kylo would need to have turned to the Dark Side at a very young age and be in his late 20s or early 30s by episode 7), but it would explain why Rey is force-sensitive and why some characters seem to have an idea of who she is.
I don't know why a good guy would hide her on Jakku, there must be decent space orphanages in the galaxy. Tatooine wasn't nearly as bad as Jakku and Luke was put there with family. Maybe Kylo put her there because he was too much of a wimp to finish what he had started?
