You're very wrong though and it's obvious that you and others who have based their opinions off such assumptions haven't followed the making of this movie. Generally I would agree with you but in this particular case it's actually quite different.
The movie has been in the making for 10 years. Uwe Boll was told to fuck off when he asked to direct it. Sam Raimi's tried getting his hands on the project and he wanted to do his own spin on the Warcraft story instead of following the source material. He wanted to make a generic good vs evil story with the humans as good and the orcs as bad and basically just wanted to use the Warcraft brand to sell his own shitty version of LotR. Blizzard said 'Nah bro, that's not Warcraft' and vetoed his script. So THAT'S actually what you're talking about and what would have happened if Blizzard didn't stop it from happening. But they did, and they waited to make sure it was in the right hands.
In comes Duncan Jones, HUGE Warcraft nerd. Has played Warcraft since Warcraft 1. Has done Moon and Source Code, 2 good movies. Wanted this project badly and jumped on the opportunity after Raimi's departure. He came in, told them exactly how he thinks it should be done. The story should be told from both perspectives, good and bad apples on both sides, staying true to the real story. Blizzard were like: 'Whoa dude, let's do this!'. It's a passion project for him and that's why I think it was handled with care and will actually be good.
A first installment is not going to break any records but it sure as hell won't bomb, and it'll spawn a franchise. A lot of people are going to be very surprised when this movie comes out, watch.
