you're overestimating how interesting "another mysterious race with their own motives" would be. it's like you want your own speculative fanfiction to be the truth.
actually good storytelling can't just consist of even more exposition this late into a story: things have to turn out to be a combination of elements that were previously set up.
the Others motives would be survival no matter what. if they're magically altered humans created by the CotF or their own race: they're not going to be conquering Westeros purely for the evulz or purely because humans hurt their feelings but for a combination of both.
this explanation means no one is completely good or evil: it means the CotF aren't endearing Pixies and the Others aren't just genocidal necromancers.and the Faceless Men aren't plot device assassin's guild to train Arya but something similar to the Others created by the Valyrians.
it's a logical implementation of magic in a fantasy world: everyone uses it for their own ends and stupid shit happens but it's not completely anyone's fault.

That movie sucked. They wrote a concept but forgot to write the rest of the script and tried to fill in the gaps with long scenes of nothing. When it came time to film the ending they didn't have one so they just gave up and sent the film off to the production company.
