Welcome to A Song of Revenge and Gold: House Malroy Quest. In which you take the reins of a House of storied glorious past since Aegon’s Conquering, but whose fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in the doom that Robert’s Rebellion brought. You are Brynden Malroy, second son to Lord Vamos Malroy and Lady Esemella Hayford and the last living heir to Steadhold and House Malroy. The year is 285AC, two years after the Rebellion and a year after your return to Westeros.
House Malroy is a pre-genned House designed around the idea of a story within the Crownlands of a House fiercely loyal to the Targaryens and their attempts to live in this new world after Robert’s Rebellion. Lord Brynden Malroy is as well pre-genned but will take direction from the players in his ways and how he develops himself further. This Quest will be moderately more story driven than others of its kind, but the development of the House and her lands will take just as much importance.
If you’ve played one of the many Quests within the ASoIaF setting the rules of the SIFRP system should be known. I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

And now without further ado.
-[4 Years Earlier]-
A smile plays upon his lips, his footwork the opposite of your own, the crowd of Second Sons that had gathered to cheer on the spot of ‘sport’ fills your ears with drunken revelry. Behind you looms the walls of Pentos, tall and massive stone things. The Second Sons had made camp here for reasons entirely unknown to you, likely a contract of some sort, Mero had gone alone into the city, leaving the rest of you to your own devices for the night. The new leader of the Second Sons wasn’t the particular sort you were fond of, he took contracts that left a sense of unease in the pit of your stomach, Ser Mason Flowers and Solhas za Tarbeck had agreed, plans had begun to form to leave. The Golden Company needed men, the Windblown and Tatters looked promising, just a few more years...
Your mind ceases restless wandering, focusing again on the task at hand, a new recruit, supposedly a Knight from the Riverlands. Not much older than yourself it looked, but the gung ho cockiness that wore upon his face had drawn the ire of some of the older sods, and thus you were here. A friendly spot of ‘sport’ Marqus Mudd liked to call it, more like hazing Mason would say. He was adorned like a Knight, castle-forged steel plate and sword, his stances were Westerosi to be certain, the way he pushed you off your attack with his shield was almost as crisp as Mason’s own, but not quite. And in Essos, fighting like an honorable Knight was more likely to get you killed in your line of work. You press your attack again as the Second Sons begin to get restless again, egging you on. Your armor afforded you a quicker step and you were into a rolling swing off his shield the moment he brought it up in defense. The old steel lashes across the back of his knees with your follow through, and he stumbles from the strike and lack of stop for his own momentum.
Vyror Ahyrs and Alester Urswyck burst into laughter as you come off the exchange relatively unharmed, playing to the crowd of assorted sellswords. This had been the third time you managed to go unscathed in a row and the Knight looked to be at his wit’s end having dropped his sword and raising his hands in surrender.
“I yield,” he says as he turns around, sweat having pressed his chestnut hair to his forehead, the smiling continuing to dance upon his lips, “My cousin had the misfortune of jousting a Malroy in a Tourney at Harrenhal. He left with a broken arm. I will count myself fortunate to have only tarnished my pride and some battered knees.”
The crowd begins to dissipate as you stare at the man, “How did you know I was a Malroy?”
The Riverlands Knight crosses the makeshift practice yard and offering out his hand, “Kind of hard to miss the gold horse pin, Ser?”
“Brynden. And not a Ser,” you say taking his hand roughly.
He laughs the smile still not having left the corners of his lips, “Not Ser than perhaps Lord? Ser Victor Haigh. At your service.”
“A Frey croony then? Tell me does old Lord Walder Frey still sit upon the Twins?” Mason asks having come up behind you.
“Does the High Septon ever pray, Ser Knight? Seven be good if the old sod ever dies. Lady Bethany Rosby, his… Sixth I think? Just passed, I was told before my coming here, and now he courts a Seventh, woman from the Crownlands if my father is to be believed. And a Frey croony I am not. My House is sworn to the Twins yes. But I am here for my own purposes. Adventure, coin, a little bit of wine and women. It’s in my heart, lust for something more.”
“Not a banished son? Disgraced by his own hand?” Mason asks.
“Hardly,” Victor responds with a scoff, “I’m in line for nothing in the Riverlands, unless my cousin dies childless. Why not come here? Enjoy my youth. Seven knows Westeros hardly has anything to do outside play fighting anymore.”
“Greater truth has never been spoken,” you say allowing your own smile, “Welcome to the Second Sons, Ser Victor. Come drink with us.”
The smile dances about his face, young as it was, “It would be my pleasure Lord Malroy.”
“Let’s not start that Ser Victor.”
-[Present Day]-
“How you doing Victor?”
“Hurting like a son of a whore Lord Malroy,” Victor responds from his place on the floor, one of the freed captives is helping Yondril tend to his tattered leg, he grunts in pain as the pull out the last of the bolts, “Tell me doc, will I ever walk again? Or should I start shopping around with the butcher?”
“Funny,” Yondril responds simply as he pulls something he had been chewing from his mouth and forcing it into the hole, “Will walk. Not for while. Need rest. Hold here woman, pressure. Do not speak with Victor. Tongue knows no bounds.”
“Thanks Yon,” Victor says with an allowed amount of sarcasm. Yondril nods to you as he stands, wiping his hands clean of Victor’s blood. Eyes cast about the dim room, more than a few of the prisoners still needed attention, more than your company doctor could give at least. They were still massively unsafe here in the crypts below the forgotten hall. Armed sellswords sat overhead, at least 200 if you had to take a guess. You simply couldn’t whisk them away under night’s cover, “Brynden? You alright up there?” Victor asks.
“Worried Vic. A lot more people here than I expected. Dontos is still hours out and we’re dead middle in enemy territory with wounded men.”
“Mason doesn’t seem concerned.”
/tg/, save a chronic murderhobo. I wanna try out a more role-play defined playstyle, but I don't really know how to do that. I mean, besides making the character's defining trait "is a murderhobo".
When you make characters, and then play as those characters, what's your creative process like? How do you "get in character"?
Gonna just dump art of cool looking characters until people post, feel free to also post characters that make you wanna RP.
Depends entirely on the campaign. Tell us a few details about your campaign.
>>47233426
None atm, just sorta thinking for next time I happen to get into some game. Obviously since there's a relationship between game type and character type, I generally end up playing games suited to murderhobo-ness, so it's not so much that my characters are ill-suited to the games I'm playing as much as I just wanna find some other kinds of games.
I guess "kill shit and be big" is a pretty universal "character" though so. Mostly thinking of something that's still based in adventuring and killing shit, just a lil more "serious"?
The fight has begun, and the warrior of the 11th has made it clear that he intends to give no quarter.
The rusted spear in his hands is thrust forward, its sharp end aimed at your chest. The air crackles, forced into disarray by the weapon's strength. Not the wind, not the pull of gravity, not even the user's own imperfect movements can stand in the spear's way. No matter how skilled a martial artist, no motion can be perfectly steady, no strike can be like a straight line; but this spear refuses to go along with any factors that could hold it back, even the flaws of its own user.
This strike really is a straight line from point A to point B. The efficiency of the attack is absolute. That perfect trajectory cannot be disturbed, because the attack itself is unstoppable. The only hope of survival is to get out of its path before it's too late.
You dart away. The edge cuts your side, drawing blood and tearing at your black uniform, the unrelenting force behind the blow not diminished in the slightest by the brief, painful contact. That force nearly catches you off-guard and knocks you off your feet, but you manage to hold your ground and take the initiative as your opponent readies for his next blow.
"Flourish, Haname!" You swiftly exclaim the name of Hikari's shield, releasing your blank sword. As the shield of light forms in front of you, the spearman's eyes widen and his swift feet push him backwards. It seems that even Ryuu is hesitant to face the mysterious force that supposedly repelled the Menos Grande.
"A shield?" He mutters after a brief inspection, his tone cautiously relieved. His expression suddenly regains its fierce confidence and he charges back into the fray. He doesn't attempt to bypass the semitransparent barrier - Ryuu's dash is as direct as the path of his weapon - both are headed directly for your copied release.
(1/2)
>>47233119
The unstoppable Zanpakuto blurs into the shield of light... and stops.
...No, saying that it stopped would be inaccurate.
It is still going.
The outer layer of the reflective shield ripples wildly, like a sea in the midst of a storm. The mad spear presses on, not even a speck of its power lost upon collision with the barrier - on the contrary, it's growing stronger. Haname saps at your spiritual reserves to reflect the unceasing attacks of Ryuu's Judenmaru, so you can feel what's going on clearly; the frequency and the volume of each strike, and their steadily increasing might. Even so, the spear does not budge - it gains even more power before the force of its previous strike can knock it off-course.
It's as though the shield is being barraged with hundreds of strikes. If Haname was made of steel, the sparks would be like fireworks.
But even so, the spear can't advance an inch. A few seconds have passed since the collision, but Haname still holds. Its inner layer begins to give way to tiny cracks, but the damage is negligible. It can hold out for a little longer.
Even though the spear possesses an unbelievable ability, it's still limited by the user's capacity. Perhaps Ryuu's spiritual power will run out before he breaks through.
Or maybe that isn't a chance worth taking.

>A spear that never stops in its course. Once thrust, it cannot be swayed or deflected in any direction until it reaches the destination set by its user before the strike. If it collides with something it cannot go through, whether it's an object of terrain, a spiritual barrier, or simply high endurance, instead of losing any force behind the strike, it gains more power over time until it grows to a point sufficient to overcome the obstacle. When this weapon hits, it counts as having struck seven times instead of merely once.
>Because of the user's poor compatibility with the spirit dwelling within the weapon, the Zanpakuto is difficult to wield and not at its full strength. While this negative is not 'replicated', it is still impossible to draw out the Zanpakuto's actual strength without first analyzing it at its prime.
>>47233141
Take our time casting a Bakudo and make sure to move a bit so the spear is no longer pointed at us. When the spell is finished, dispel Haname and don't cast until Ryuu completes his thrust.
That seems possible right?
Alternatively we could just circle around so we're behind Ryuu and then dispel Haname and have our sword at his neck. I'm not sure how mobile Haname is though.

How are you getting sneak attack? Neither your unarmed strikes or improvised weapons can deal sneak attack damage since both lack finesse. Also you cant use the grapple feature unless you use an unarmed strike or improvised weapon. You would be much better off going bardx/barb1 or bard3/barbx. you may loose sneak attack but gain spells.
>>47232829
I never said that the tavern brawler strike would yield Sneak Attack damage, retard. In fact, I even implicitly specified that the TB strike would not count for sneak attack damage when I stated the total damage as "20d6 bludgeoning + 4*SA". Wanna keep exhibiting your poor reading comprehension?
Regardless, it easily could: kitchen knife, spearhead, generic metal shard could easily be implemented as a dagger.

The speech, to Sunao's great dismay, was cancelled.
Too dangerous, Holm had said, too much risk when an unknown number of cultists were still at large. Sunao had continued to protest in a rather weak, half-hearted way for a while longer before the stress of the day finally caught up with him and caused him to faint dead away. Then, at long last, you got some peace and quiet.
Of course, that entire debate happened after you had finally returned to the temple. Once Manabu was dead, and the danger passed, the military swooped in to take control of the situation. Escorted out of their new cordon, you met up with Koa and Howa. With the military stopping them from even approaching the marketplace, all they could do was listen as you dealt with Manabu. At least he was the only one who died. His hostage, Toraji, was unharmed.
Shaken, of course, but that's nothing unusual. Day to day life, you've noticed, is enough to leave him shaken.
>>47231836
Night fell without ceremony, but you suspect that few people in the Dragon's Head will be sleeping soundly. For one thing, the stillness of the night is occasionally pierced by the crack of rifle shots, the military hunting down the last of the cultists. Every one of those shots marks an act of resistance, a pilgrim who had chosen death over surrender. Was there cause really worth dying for, you silently ask the night, or were they just forced into a corner? Faced with his plans – poorly thought out as they were – crumbling around him, Manabu had taken desperate action. Why should his followers be any different?
There will be no answers for you – not tonight, and not here. This wasn't some scheme years in the making, this was a blind and foolish attack, driven by desperation. Having abandoned the Seer, Manabu had wagered everything on this. He wagered everything, and he lost.
“Tea?” the voice from behind you snaps you back to reality. It's Toraji, a clay cup in his extended hand. As you take it, he sits beside you on the temple steps. “I've, uh, I've been looking for you.”
Well, he's found you. You're sorry, you add with a wry smile, about his speech.
“Probably for the best,” Torji shrugs, “I don't think it's going to matter much now anyway. We've been summoned – you, me and Sunao, I mean. Lord Lapis has, uh, requested our presence. Normally, this would be when he gives his judgement, but...”
But, you repeat, but what?
“Well, I suppose I've, uh, accepted it. Failing, I mean,” a calm smile, slightly sad, touches Toraji's lips, “I'm alive, so I don't mind if I spend the rest of my life sweeping the floors here. No matter what happens, I've got you to thank for that.”

I'm afraid of going into detail with my setting, because I don't want my players accusing me of injecting my major/profession into games
Otherwise, I would be mapping full Fantasy trophic webs, do research into Fantasy niche diversification/speciation, and include all manner of creatures from soil macroorganisms to essentially Xenoblade style phylogenic headaches
Because since its High Fantasy, I should either go big or go home

when you try to go original it just feels so wrong (sadly)
Has your character ever been confronted by a difficult morale choice?
How did he handle it?
>>47227244
I once had to leave my character's cousin behind. She had been crit and turned undead. She was my squire, a promising swordswoman.
We had two choices. Leave her body intact and risk letting her rise to kill again. Or decapitating her to end the undead curse.
Every member of my party said "You're a Paladin, you can fix her, right?" But no one knew. They pleaded and begged. "We can save her, there has to be a way."
Her body wouldn't have lasted long enough for any accessible revival magicks, and my Paladin knew that. Questing for powerful enough magic would have endangered my party. Even if I could have saved her, I couldn't save her from what she'd have done to us and others along the way.
I dragged her out into the fields where the party couldn't see me, and I struck her neck twice. With her gone, her branch of the family lined ended. I would be held responsible for her death by my father and uncle and I would be stripped of my name, and I was.
I dug a grave and I said a prayer, marked the grave with her sword. The party hasn't spoken of her since, but each morning, I take another hour of prayer for her.

Wold guardians hit hard (and auto knock down stuff) but they're limited by being only fury 3, not having reach, being able to sprint 4 inches and not having access to a lot of living warbeast buffs.
They're still good mind you, and with 1" reach they'll be better. It's just you can trivially get a stalker to Mat 8 Pow 20 + whatever charge bonuses you can fit, not to mention ghetorix can get Mat 11 Pow 21 before you even feat with eKromac.
Wolds have their place though and I love putting them down on the table

>>47159205 made me realize that, as far as I have seen, there isn't a tabletop version of that.
It seems like a simple enough system, I'd say. Go a bit rules lite for a fast and loose system, don't need gridding but maybe you need maps. Have all weapons be based on a charge system that doubles/triples damage (Maybe d6-d10 for melee's average attack, d2-d6 for guns, d2-d10 for bombs?). Have different armors reduce enemy damage by 1-2, have player HP be at an arbitrary 20?
The setting itself is already ripe for GMing, as the above posts have said. Exosuits, crashed planet, etc.
basically, what would you see the setting be in a tabletop?
When you say charge system do you mean like skipping an attack turn to do a multiple of your normal damage the next round, or like you can only use your pistol three times in a row then it must recharge?
As far as the armor/health system works, I would imagine you would have to do a trade off; Say you start with the 20 flat health in your basic suit, but you find a shadow damage resistant helmet that lets you block or reduce all shadow damage by half but takes away 2 or 3 health.
I would think the most complex thing about the setting is the elemental damages but I could be over thinking it.
>>47220924
No, you're right. The elemental thing is a bit harder to do. Like, the stats and everything in the game itself are really, really simple.
And yes, skipping an attack turn to boost damage. And I completely forgot pistols had to reload. So there's another mechanic.
But one thing is that you can always move+action per turn. Like, your move might be reduced while charging, but you always move.
For movement I would think that you would have to do an action points kind of system where an attack might be four points, then a tile movement on the grid would be two points each, so you could dash in, attack, dash back out or fire a shot move a bit and fire again.
Do you make your own maps /tg/? Care to share some?
I usually sketch random blobs on a peice of paper, determine which ones will be sea, continent, or archepelago. then overlay the details, read a book on geography for that shit. Then i split it into a 3x3 grid, buy a white poster board from wallmart (22 x 28 inches or something) and just scale it up square by square

Is it possible to make or play a cyberpunk game completely without guns, at least for the PC protagonists?
Ala Danger Man or Utopia or Mirror's Edge?
>>47216427
>Mirror's Edge
>Enemies literally have guns
>You take said guns from the enemies
But seriously, just do a setting where firearms are illegal (without getting into /pol/-tier arguments about whether legality actually stops guns from being around or not. It's a fantasy game, so the law just works here, OK Steve?).
>>47216427
Illegal possession of firearms, life in jail without chance for parole, shortening, or pardoning. Selling or smuggling firearms is instant death penalty, government controls production and distribution. Permission to own or carry firearm virtually impossible to acquire.
Deus Ex Hong Kong had a good system for it.
All over the city, there are microphones that are tuned specifically to pick up the sounds of gunfire and immediately alert police fast response teams to its exact location.
