It's getting way easier to get NHs/PGs. Yeah, anyone can do it theoretically, but instead of one every one or two years now there's a huge panic when any pitcher goes 5 or 6 innings with a NH/PG going, and it's getting to be 3 or 4 a year.
tl;dr the increased frequency is diluting the "value", excitement, impressiveness, whatever you want to call it, of a no-hitter.
Just as an example, would you rather be Philip Humber, who actually got one but was and still is otherwise a nobody, or Pedro Martinez, who had about 6 games coming within an out or two in the ninth of getting one, including one with 17 Ks, but never had an official no-no? Not to mention that he technically threw 10 hitless innings once, but because of the rules re: NHs, doesn't get credit for that game.
