Everyone and their brother wanted to be a baseball player.
Nowadays we have scouts in Venezuela and Latin American and Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Latin countries but there are more people here in America who want to play basketball or football. Back then, scouts didn't have to go very far to find talent because so many people were trying to play baseball to get out of the coal mines. It sort of offsets.

It seems like you're at the point where you just see the pitcher on the mound throwing to the catcher, and one is no different from the next. Sometimes that can be the case, but there's a lot of different releases pitchers use, varying speeds, movement from their release point to where the ball nears the plate, intended location(usually where the catcher holds his glove while the ball is in motion), etc.
There are also a lot of decisions to be made by the players as to how they want to pitch to certain hitters, in certain game situations, and pitch counts.
