I'm not sure I agree, but let's say you're right, I'd point out that john oliver and the appearance I think you're referring to are quite French in my judgement - we do have plenty of French blood around the south of the country. My theory is that, seeing as the muslims got as far as southern france before the crusades began, there'll be some arab-y stuff going on there which is where that french look comes from, and that got into some British people. French people, of course, are snobs who refuse to learn English and so they're not really seen much internationally, but I suspect if they were you'd find they're much more consistently ugly in that way than British people.
