I've pretty much been a purist of instrument based music for my whole life, and every time I try to broaden my horizons to electronic I encounter this problem:
Pretty much all electronic music I've heard has literally no harmonic depth. A quick test with my piano usually reveals that every note in most of this music is comprised of white keys, which means nothing i've heard strays at all from the regular major/minor modes. This is also a problem i have with rock (though to a slightly lesser extent) because its so obvious to me when guitar players are writing based on moving shapes and not their ear.
I'm not looking for fucking electronic beethoven or anything but just some more advanced harmonic stuff.
It seems like the infinite possibilities of the electronic medium are totally stifled by its practitioners complete lack of musical training.
I'm tired of hearing songs in the key of C, A minor, or cycling between Fmaj7 and Em7 (which are all white keys)
