Welcome to the weekly /mu/ jazz Blindfold Test thread. This week I am pleased to announce we have a new guest who has compiled the tracklist for next week.
If you're new, the point of these threads is to encourage critical listening, discussion, and general enjoyment of jazz. All critical music listeners are welcome. The more participation we have, the more fun and successful these threads will be. In the interest of keeping the thread alive and bumped, any general jazz discussion is welcomed here as well.
For more information about how the threads work and...

The head of this sounds familiar. There might just be a few idioms that I’m hearing and being like “Yes that’s a thing I’ve heard before”. Like the first 8 bars or so sound quite “modern”(we love that word round here) and the trumpet tone and piano calling rhythmic responses reminds me of something that Woody Shaw (though it’s obviously not him) might do. But then the preceding section with the way the drums accent the horn lines and in particular the melody...

I am genuinely interested if there is any pop artists out there that are actually making art and not some product full of derivative shit to sell like Grimes. Do any pop artists value musical innovation or proficiency?

Why?
I am making a call to action, let us never post this album image again for at least a few months and allow the dust to settle. too many people on this board think this is a meme and too many of you fuckers play along. posting DALE in random threads and calling everyone out on being him. if youre a fan of this album, then do Billy a favor and dont allow this shit to become a meme. most of the people who are playing along with this joke havent even listened to it. lets stop this, right now. this isnt meme-tier, its just alt-rock and lullabies. if its like this now, imagine how...

I want to know this boards opinion on Son Lux. Why do you like or dislike if you have an opinion.
At War... is still his best album. He's got a lot of good ideas and intersting arrangements but he needs someone to reel him in most times, which is why We are Rising wasnt great. Lanters was pretty good, and Bones was a little less good.
He has an interesting live show.
>>60274384
I agree with everything you just said. Like it just feels like he gets a tad bit carried away.
But I really like the arrangements, they keep me on the edge.
I love Son Lux and everything he/they have put out, Bones is criminally underrated and my personal aoty
>>60274384
Really? At War is your favorite? don't think I've ever met anyone who thought so.
