Hey classicalfus, why doesn't anyone make opera productions like a film? I feel like there's probably a decent market for opera DVDs if they were more than just a glorified taping of a live performance. Why couldn't you direct and shoot one like a movie? Could you imagine Wagner with the staging, cinematography, and production quality of a film?

there's surely a few more out there that are similar to that sort've film-style, but i'm not particularly sure which those might be.
anyway, i don't know why it isn't commonly done. it's most likely an expensive endeavor, and you need to be able to find competent directors who are willing to do it as well.
